From Mike R – I am writing about my 1954 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe that I found in a basement garage behind the house. I don’t know the full story on the car but the last registered owner passed away and his widow left it to a friend who also passed away. I found it on New Hampshire’s craigslist and the car had been sitting for 12 years. It had 47,800 miles on the odometer and I believed it after looking at the underside of the car and the brake and gas pedal wear!
Not sure who tried to paint the car or when but that’s when most of the damage to the car happened. It’s extremely solid with no bondo. No patchwork floors either. The undercoating held up well over the years. I chipped up the loose stuff and painted it to protect the rest. The car had lost brakes and leaked a majority of the automatic transmission fluid. So upgrades have included a front disc brake conversion and dual master cylinder, but I haven’t had it moving yet.
This looks like a nice old car!
Awesome lines on this car, thanks for sharing Mike. Great find, will be a sweet ride one you’ve gone through it to make it road worthy again. Thanks for keeping another fine American car from the scrap heap.
Cool, Mike, thanks for sharing your find!
Did not realize they were still using a flathead 6 in 54.
The flathead six was used in the Windsor series why the New Yorker series had Hemis.
Very jealous of this find. Here lately CL is full of overpriced hot rods, and junky heaps starting at 5K. This is just the kind of car I’d buy and tinker with and enjoy. Nice job Mike!
Great find! I’m in NH too. by the coast.. I’ll have to look closer at the CL listings :)
Thanks for sharing the story, Mike.
Good luck with the Chrysler, A little TLC will reward you with a lovely quality vehicle that you will be proud to own & drive.
