Some enthusiasts may look at this 1979 Pontiac Firebird Formula and think that its best days are behind it. Others see this car as a diamond in the rough and immediately start dreaming of what this car could be. This Pontiac Formula is located in San Antonio, Texas and was listed about a week ago here on Facebook Marketplace. The seller is asking $8,000 for the car.

The copper exterior is starting to fade but the tan vinyl interior is not in that bad of condition. This Formula left the factory with the base interior. The door panels will need some work or replacement but the seats, console and dash look to be in surprisingly in good condition. There is one crack in the passenger side of the dash. This was not a highly optioned car from the factory but it does have tilt steering, remote driver mirror, air conditioning and the factory AM/FM stereo.

The base engine for the 1979 Pontiac Formula was the 301 cubic inch V8 engine fed through a 2 barrel carburetor. This engine only produced 135 horsepower. If a buyer upgraded to a 4 barrel carburetor, power output increased to 155 horsepower. Optional engines included the Oldsmobile 403 cubic inch V8 engine rated at 185 horsepower and the W72 Pontiac 400 engine rated at 220 horsepower. This car has a 301 cubic inch V8 engine backed by an automatic transmission. It could be easily swapped out for a more power Pontiac or LS engine depending on what your preference is.

Pontiac built 24,850 Formulas in 1979 which were far fewer than the eye popping 117,109 Trans Ams built in the same year. There is some rust on the car. The front carpet looks wet and there is some rot in the trunk lid and rust in the trunk pan. The car has been parked for a long time and the seller states that he is negotiable.
