Restorable 1957 Cadillac 62 Coupe DeVille

Up for sale is this 1957 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe DeVille that was found in a barn about 3 years ago. The current location is in Cartersville, Georgia and the seller is asking $4,500 for it. There is a clean title for the car. They do not have the VIN or any miles listed. Thank you, Roger, for the tip. You can view more here on Craigslist.

Powering this bulky but beautiful ride is a 365 cubic inch V8 connected to a 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. That was the only option available for the 5th generation car. It is a classic case of ran when parked. Parts like the water pump and carburetor went bad and while the carburetor made it back onto the car, the water pump did not.

The interior is in rough shape. There are no floors. They will need to be replaced. Unfortunately, no pictures of the rear seats are in the listing, so no assessment can be made about that. The trunk is full of parts and seems to be somewhat solid. The car itself is speckled with rust and in some cases it is severe. According to the listing neighborhood kids broke out some windows on the car.

It is hard to determine exactly how much work will need to be done to get this car to a suitable state. If you are looking to fully restore it that might take a lot of time and money. If you are looking to hot rod it, that might not be as much time or money. For some reason, when I saw the long rear profile picture, I thought of going all battle car on it. It would be cool to see it with a custom bed on an Escalade frame.

For about 3x the asking price you can get something that you can buy and drive…. on Hemmings. Seems like a better deal, I don’t care if it’s a 4 door.

Indeed, the one in Hemmings is clearly the better buy.
It’s sad to see a once elegant lady in such distress. Perhaps someone out there will take on this labor of love, and restore her to her former grace. Tho the odds of this one’s tires feeling pavement again are incredibly slim. Most likely she will serve as a parts car herself.

And sad that kids of today don’t see the value or beauty in that old Caddy even if it is rusted. Busting out the windows was just a display of stupidity. And even if it’s a rust bucket not worth restoring, the parts have value. That passenger side window if it’s in good shape would have been worth more than a few dollars. Destruction of others’ property is always wrong.

Agreed,r s. There are better deals elsewhere. This is a parts car, maybe $1000.00 which still feels too high. Resurrection costs would be extreme. You can do better elsewhere.

Looks like you could live out of the trunk while you are doing the restoration. That might save you a couple bucks.

If not a few bucks, it just might save your marriage!

This a parts car. Brenton said it the article, “with rust and in some case is severe”

That is all you need to know.

About 15 yrs ago this was a restore project.

Not now, one big dip in the road would likely crack the car in two pieces.

‘It would be cool to see it with a custom bed on an Escalade frame.’

The rusty body would never make the transition without completely coming apart.

I don’t think this poor thing has any “cool” left in it’s future.
