Rusty Rally Sport: 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS

When you hear the words “one owner”, “numbers matching”, “rally sport”, “super sport” and “convertible” your heart may start to beat faster. But, sometimes those buzz words can’t overcome reality. That may be the case with this 1967 Chevrolet Camaro. It can be found here on eBay and it has an asking price of $9,500. Located in Agawam, Massachusetts, the car has no doubt seen some moisture in its life.

The biggest draw back to this project is the immense amount of rust repair. The driver’s floor seems to be the worst, but you can see there have already been some poor attempts at patch panels in other parts of the car. The passenger side also has some holes along with the underside. Unfortunately, this may be a case where the body is too far gone to be salvageable, but that will be up to the new owner to decide.

The engine is said to be the original 327 c.i.d. backed by a 3-speed transmission. The owner does state that the heads and other top end components are missing. It’s hard to say if this engine is rebuildable. If not, that will dramatically lower the value of the finished car.

The upholstery and other interior components may be the best part of this project. It’s too bad that the metal has been left to rot for so long. At least some parts of the car appear to have been stored and/or maintained properly.

Here you can see extended spring perches that were popular in the late 1960’s into the 1980’s. Any respectable street machine tried to get some sort of traction advantage. Overall this car is going to be a big project. A prospective buyer will have to weigh the cost of rust and mechanical repair along with all of the other odds and ends with the potential outcome. Yes, it is a 1967 Camaro RS/SS Convertible, but is it too far gone to come back to its former glory?

Not sure what is going on here, has a 68SS hood, base for a 67SS was 350. the first car Chevrolet put the 350 in, upgrade option was 396BB. If I am thinking right the 4 speed was base also. My first car was a 67 SS350 with a Muncie 4 speed. Spoilers were not available until 68, not a big deal because most guys added them for the looks. I rolled it outside of Kearney, MO in Oct/74 a week before my 17th birthday. “The good old days”
