Salt Flat Pontiac: 1962 Pontiac Bonneville

62-pontiac-1

Packed with good looks, two doors, and a Pontiac 400 V8, this ’62 Pontiac Bonneville is looking for a new home. Overall a solid Bonneville, the seller has fixed some issues with this Pontiac, and even painted it. Needing only a little more attention to be a very nice example, this Pontiac is priced at $6,950. Find it here on craigslist out of Graham, Washington.

Stated as being a solid car over all, the seller put in a new trunk floor, and painted the trunk floor as well as the interior floor. The interior is missing the carpet due to a painting mishap.  Aside from the missing the carpet, the interior looks very nice. The seats look great, as well as the door panels and dash. The steering wheel looks to be the only major let down to the interior. The seller also had the exterior of this Bonneville painted, and though his friend did a nice job, “nice” is a relative term. There are no under hood photos, but we would have painted or at the least used a clear rust inhibitor on the recessed area around the trunk. The chrome looks great, and all the trim is listed as being present.  The 400 cubic inch Pontiac V8 “sounds” strong though this Pontiac is in much need of an exhaust.

With a little work, this Pontiac Bonneville would make a great cruiser. Featuring a solid chassis, and fresh paint, there is some potential in this one. How many of you Pontiac fans would pick up this Bonneville?

Where did Salt Flat come from? Looks like it’s pictured in the green, green grass of home….

“Doc, you gotta help me, I can’t get the song “Green, Green Grass of Home” out of my head.”
“Sorry to break it to you, son, but you have Tom Jones Syndrome.”
    “Is that common?”
    “Well, It’s Not Unusual.”

Pretty sure he was referring to the Bonneville Salt Flats in order to make a catchy heading.

My question exactly. Now 421 “Ponyacs” were around in ’62, but 400s? I. Don’t. Think. So.

I believe the stock engines were 389. My step dad worked for GM back in the days and ordered a 62 Catalina Ventura brand new. He watched it go down the assembly line. He screwed up when he ordered a double coating of undercoating because in a few short years it started rusting real bad down low because it pluged up most of the drain holes. It was the first car I ever drove and it had more than enough power to smoke them tires. Loved that car even with 4 doors.

Looks nice to me. Would love to have it. Starting price is reasonable. Just on the wrong coast.

I like the long, lean look of this vehicle. If you could personify this car, it would be the Clint Eastwood of Pontiacs. Is it just me, or does the front end look like a subdued Edsel?

I love the look of this car, front, back, and side. It’s way to far away for me, but it sure gives me something to look for around here.

    Yep, would have been a 389 most likely. Definitely not a 400. My ’64 runs a 389.
