Shade Tree Find: 1961 Cadillac Fleetwood

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

It is all too often that a nice classic is forgotten and left out in the elements like this 1961 Cadillac Fleetwood. Although left under a tree there are certainly positive and negative aspects to this old Cadillac. Although I think the positive outweighs the negative with this one. I dare say that I have seen worse put back into service, and really this Caddy could be a good potential rat rod or patina queen. With a few days remaining in the auction, this Fleetwood is up for $1,000. Take a look at it here on eBay out of Richmond, Utah.

Beyond the leaves, dirt and the dingy rag, the 390 cubic inch V8 still remains in this old Caddy. Although the carb is obviously missing this engine appears to be quite complete. The condition is unknown, and the damp dirty rag over the intake isn’t all too inspiring, to say the least. Though stranger things have happened, and perhaps there is still a little “umph” in this old engine. If not the rat rod approach of an engine swap could certainly be an option.

Sadly the passenger side window has been broken out so the interior looks more like a national geographic rainforest scene than a deluxe Cadillac interior. I would plan to trash the seats, but who knows the dash and other components may clean up enough for a rat rod or patina queen.

Allow me to make mention of the awesome space-age styling of this Fleetwood with its 4 fins, 2 on top and 2 on the bottom. Despite the pitiful appearance of this forgotten Caddy, I will say the rust appears to be minimal. The seller mentions that the body is rust free from what he can see minus the lower wings of the front fenders. I am curious about the floors with the broken out window, but floors aren’t the worst thing to have to deal with as they typically are not seen. Both sides of this car look very straight and again, there is no apparent rot in the quarters on this car. Although a bit of a gamble, I suspect that this finned beauty would clean up decent once out in the open with a rough interior to sort out. Would you save this forgotten Fleetwood?

Looks like we’re running out of barns now. They have to be found outside.

You can still locate these in running condition for reasonable sums of cash. This one , eh , only a parts car unless one is really in the mood to tackle it. Looks like the front windshield is also broken out of it…Wish folks would stop breaking the glass on old forgotten cars….for the fun of it….

Definitely a parts car, but there are a lot of good parts there. Bumper parts, hood and decklid will bring good money to the right person.

Well said. Not Junk. Parts car for sure……2 doors too many for any restoration value

Fleetwood’s have always been at the top of my ‘dream list’. What the owner did [rather, DIDN’T] do to this once elegant lady is nothing short of criminal. If the intent was to restore her, she should have been moved indoors, or sold to someone who actually gives a **** about preserving such works of art

A few years with leaves composting on the paint and in the cowl vent is a terrible fate for this old sled. I have seen a few old four doors in black primer and pin stripes that were kinda cool

I am still horrified by the way some people allow great looking cars just sit an d grow into the ground or have a bunch of trash thrown on them. This car could have been saved and turned out really well. But, now…unless you have really deep pockets and a sure burning desire.

1k opening bid and no bidders… not even the original color, which appears to be green. He should take it apart and sell the parts that are salvageable and tow the rest to a recycle yard.
