Short Bed Survivor: 1990 Dodge Power Ram

This 1990 Dodge Power Ram is a desirable short-bed pickup that remains in extremely clean condition with no obvious cosmetic flaws. The seller notes it is a 4WD model equipped with a manual transmission and dependable 318 V8. The truck comes from the dry, desert climate of New Mexico and the seller is confident it will pass any emissions inspection it faces. Find it here on craigslist for $8,000 with $3,000 in recent maintenance receipts.

The interior is in immaculate condition, with a crack-free dashboard and bench seat that looks like it was never used. The combination of the manual transmission with the 318 is one we don’t often see, and should make for an ideal combination whether cruising or crawling. The seller maintains that it has been kept in 100% stock condition and comes with working A/C and all service manuals.

The pickup benefits from $3,000 in recent maintenance. This includes a new cap/rotor, plugs, wires, rotors, smog pump, alternator, heater hoses, radiator hoses, gaskets, EGR valve, radiator, and bed cover. The stereo has also been updated and all of the major weatherstripping has been updated with new rubber as well. Even the AC/heater control panel was replaced with a new unit. Small details, but appreciated.

The seller states the exterior shows no major dents or dings and from the pictures shown, I can’t argue with the claim. The seller notes that he is selling the truck for what he has into it, and it seems like all of the work done will make this a turnkey classic for the next owner with a fresh interior to boot. These trucks don’t come along in this sort of shape often, and I’m sure the calls are coming in far and wide for it.

Whoah, super nice truck! It’s a little plain in white. A set of those contemporary aluminum phone-dial wheels Dodge used on trucks and vans would fancy it up a bit.

Here in Massachusetts, vehicles that are 15 years or older such as this Ram pickup are exempt from the annual emissions test but are required to undergo the annual safety test. If I had the dough, I’d buy this clean looking rig in a heartbeat.

Apart from the door installed speakers everything is so RIGHT about this example – 4×4, short bed, manual and a tried-and-true V8 – and even at a sane price not so common these days.

That ad won’t last; someone is getting a near spotless example of the last true trucks here. Anyone with knowledge to these; is this still a carb’d version or some sort of TBI by 1990?

my 89 3.9 v6 was tbi. this 318 probably is also. Fuel injection came in on the magnum v6s in ’92.

      local sheriff,
This truck has a tbi, and a roller lifter camshaft. Quench chamber heads, standard on 1985 and later 318 give it a 9.0:1 compression ratio.

1988- TBI on 3.9 and 5.2. 1989- TBI on 5.9. I have a 1989 W250 with the 360 TBI. 58k miles on the truck. My daily driver. I love it and so does everyone who sees it. Watch out for roof rust

Wow this is nice. With trucks I almost always say “too bad it’s not red” but this one is just so nice I will refrain from saying it.

But it would be awesome in red!

If it were closer, I’d already have it and put my Uteline box on it and paint it red…….it would be my new Lil Red.

This is a great truck!! My father had an 89 dodge d150 with a 318 and 4 speed with granny low gear. Truck was an actual truck. Wish he never sold it. He feels the same way looking back when he sold it in 99’. One of the trucks that I would love to purchase if one came up locally.

How much would they be asking of this were a Chevy?

Priced a new truck lately? And you’re buying an overly electrified, overly complicated beast that is one electrical short from being a “total”.

This is a really truck for the price of a few payments on a new one, and if kept nice would only increase in value.
I bought a mint, literally showroom condition 2002 Chevy 2500 with the 8.1 gas engine and the Duramax for the top private party value of $13K. But it’s my happy place.
This was after pricing $50,000 new trucks!

    really “nice’ truck…

Of course my 8.1 never passed a gas station it didn’t like but lucky for me I don’t drive very far.
