Simply Beautiful: 1940 Ford Two-Door

f1

What a nice looking old car! This 1940 Ford two-door looks very original, although no claim of originality is made by the seller. As a matter of fact, they don’t tell us much at all! We don’t know how many miles it has, much about any work that has been done, or much of anything about its history, other than that it is currently located in Golden, Colorado.

f2

Not only is the paint shiny, so is the chrome. Notice that the fins are straight as well. This is a really attractive car, and I don’t generally care for brown cars. Thanks to Stu for putting us on to this great find!

f5

Here’s the rear view, and it looks just as nice as the front. Don’t those open doors look inviting? And as you can see on the left, this Ford is keeping company with a much faster Ford on the left! The seller does tell us that the floor and frame are “nice.”

f3

While the interior isn’t perfect, it certainly doesn’t look bad. There is a missing radio according to the seller and the clock seems to be gone as well (that’s the hole in the right side of the dash.)

f6

There’s an awful lot of leg room back there! Again, it’s not perfect, but it’s nice. Overall, this looks like a 4 to 5 year old used car that’s been kept up with.

f4

The seller tells us that this is a 59A flathead V8, which means it could be from a later car. It doesn’t look as nice cosmetically as the outside of the car, but the seller says it runs, drives and stops well. I don’t know about you, but this looks like a pretty decent car to pursue. If you are interested, it’s up for sale here on eBay, with bidding still below $6,000. What do you think it will take to own this one?

Clearly an older restoration, but very nice car. This car’s price will go through the roof. I only hope someone leaves it as is ( fat chance) Does anybody know what that thing with the flap on the right side of the motor is? At 1st, I thought a heater motor, but it doesn’t appear to have a heater, and the air cleaner intake goes to it. Reminds me of my 1st car, a Volvo 444.

Manifold heater. . They were famous for leaking exhaust gas into car if they split or rotted out. My 39 deluxe had same setup.

I think that “thing” is indeed an accessory heater. It looks to me as if it feeds into the cowl/firewall, not the air cleaner, which is a standard cylindrical Ford can as used on so many flatheads back in the day. It just takes hot air from the engine bay and feeds it into the cabin. I would advise against using it….

Well worth the current bid, and probably worth quite a bit more.

This one needs to be left original!

Hi Howard. Like Wayne says, it’s a manifold heater. Not a recommended accessory. I’ve got a friend with a ’37 Ford with one of those and it’s somewhat scary. If this car went my direction it would get a typical coolant type. Interesting enough the regular coolant type for this car is almost identical to the one in my ’47. And they work a lot better than an exhaust heater…

Thank heavens they’ve left it alone. There aren’t many lovely old stock Fords left anymore.

Nice car. I sure wouldn’t mind something like this at my place. So many ’40 Fords (just like the Fords from ’32 to ’37) lose all their original charm at the hands of hot-rodders; it’s nice to see one that’s still in fairly original condition. I would hate to see this one ‘updated.’

Cars like this make me happy. It’s up over $7100 with the reserve not met, if it doesn’t go too high someone will get a nice deal. I call these “hope” cars. As in there’s still hope for the average guy to get into a nice old classic without ending up divorced or homeless. Sure hope whoever gets this doesn’t cut it up. I’d love to have something like this.

I had a 40 coupe back in the day. Original rebuilt flathead V8 (not later model), stick on the column, 6 volt. Only thing I changed was that I found kit they used back then to put modern shocks on it. And I also changed over to 15 inch steel wheels with chrome baby moons.
What kind of battery is in this one pictured? Seems they didn’t have room for the correct 6 volt battery after they put that heater contraption in it. That radio is worth a fortune too. I put a modern radio in my car with a 12 volt battery in a box on the back floor! Had to have my music.

Pick up a case of Coors, half a tank of gas, wear some sunglasses, and hit it.

I’ll bet the reserve is around $20K. They are testing the waters.

customer to arrange shipping. i can store for short time while you make arrangements”
