There seem to be quite a few Triumph fans who follow Barn Finds, and while the TR7 was never my favorite, this particular example, a 1980 TR7 for sale on Craigslist for only $800 in Oxford, Connecticut (not far from where I live) caught my eye.
The ad itself is not very helpful – only four muddy pictures and not much description, but at least in photos, the car’s body does not look completely terrible. It’s been sitting since 1999, and the seller claims it runs too. Of course, after sitting so long it needs brakes and a gas tank.
The car looks like it has been stored either under cover or at least out of the elements as the paint appears fairly decent, and even the top looks complete. Doubtless whomever buys this car will have some work to do, and who knows whether the interior is trashed or the floors rusted through. And I don’t suppose 80’s era Lucas electrics do all that well sitting for a long time either.
But for $800, this seems like a bargain, even if it ends up to be useful only for parts. One of our British sports car fans out there ought to grab it! Is it you?

I think there are fewer Triumph fans than you think, and the ones that are here are Board Mods…

Sorry, but we aren’t going to stop posting MGs or Triumphs. Just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean that other people don’t. In fact, if you would actually learn a little about them, I bet you too would appreciate British sports cars too. They are fun to drive, parts are plentiful, and they enjoy some of the best car clubs out there.
Agreed, the most fun-to-drive and own car I’ve ever had is my MGB (’72 GT). Completely sorted, nicely tweaked, reliable long distance voyager that happens to gather best-in-class trophies … and parts are reasonable and everywhere. Clubs and camaraderie? Seems every MG owner on the planet knows every other. And it didn’t take a million bucks and rocket science to get it where it’s at, so criticize away Stang – you have no clue
Sadly, having owned an ’80 model some years back…you could not GIVE me another one of these pieces of junque. They’re that bad! Dim, flicker, off.
i say keep em coming, love seeing the old triumphs and mg’s doing the rounds – prefer them over the glut of detroit iron – but then i’m British so love seeing cars made at Abingdon & Speke making an appearance.
Could be a LeMons competitor at that price.
