This short bed 1966 Ford F-100 appears to be just a good ol’ truck! It’s not perfect, but it’s not too bad, and it’s at a reasonable price. It’s located in McMinnville, Tennessee and is listed for sale here on eBay, with bidding at $2,000 without a reserve and a buy-it-now at $3,000.
We can tell from the April 2015 license plate that the truck has been on the road recently; in fact, the seller claims to have used it last Sunday to haul some furniture. I’m hoping they reinstalled the air cleaner that’s in the bed before they took it! I’m not sure if the tailgate is a replacement or not, but it looks pretty solid and the chrome on the straight rear bumper even looks passable.
I’m unsure whether the ripples in the bed floor are a bed mat, ice accumulation, genuine bends or a trick of the camera. It might be worth a question to the seller, but at the same time, there is metal there and the seller says the bed is “good,” so we’re ahead of some other trucks of this vintage! However, we’re definitely not talking a rare survivor here as almost 225,000 Flareside F100s were made in 1966!
Even the interior, or at least the seat, is acceptable here, although I’m pretty sure this isn’t the original upholstery. Floors have been replaced previously. The seller says it runs and drives well and actually suggests you could drive it home after making the purchase.
A lot of mechanical work has recently been completed, including installing electronic ignition and a new carburetor, alternator and voltage regulator. The fuel tank has also been replaced. The engine is described as quiet with good oil pressure and no smoking. The seller also notes new brakes on all four wheels and a new master cylinder. If all the claims are true, I don’t expect selling this truck to take long, do you?
There sure were not 225K short beds made in ’66 I’d bet. For a running original truck that seems like a fair price. I would sure think this one would go quickly, like the ’67 or so a couple of weeks ago that sold for 12K I think. If I did not already have one, I’d be all over this. The hood badge denotes 6 Cyl, but it has a 352, one or the other is not original.
Randy, you’re right on the short bed quantities; the sources I found didn’t break things out between short and long bed Flaresides.
hey bro, you need this for your significant other so you have a semi matched set. Not nearly as nice as yours, but would make a good starter.
Damn good deal. I used to live in tiny Eagleville TN…worked with a guy from McMethville TN and if it wasnt so far from where I am now I would certainly be making a trip there right away. Deals like this popped up on Nashville CL when I lived there and I had a 69 F100 with a 352 that I sold on that very Craigslist. I sure like this body style better than the ones a few years newer. The short bed makes a lot of difference for me as well.
Randy, Why the reverse on your name? Are you doing the Criss-Cross thing completely and wearing your shirt and britches backwards too? Funny thing is my silly ass didnt catch on until I saw this pic of your truck…ahhh, and to think I fancy myself as observant and one who doesnt miss much. DOH!
All of the hoopla on the Camaro dash burned me out. Thought I’d reinvent myself.
These old shortbeds don’t come along often and when they do they want a bundle for them. This is a decent deal if the seller is honest in his description.
The seating position and low doors make these very comfortable trucks to drive.
no longer has a BIN. does have a bid of $2000. nice old work truck. nice find.
Cool truck , 2nd year for twin I beam suspension.
I like it! Looks to be a pretty decent deal, especially with being a shorty! As someone already said; you really don’t see the old shorties come up that often, and yes when they do they do want a bundle – and a half! Lol
