Square-Body Favorite: 1980 Chevy C-10 Scottsdale Short Bed

Chevy’s square-body pickups are finally getting the recognition they deserve, and trucks like this 1980 Chevrolet C-10 Scottsdale short bed, now listed here on eBay, show exactly why. With clean lines, a solid frame, and a recently rebuilt drivetrain, this classic half-ton has the makings of either a dependable driver or the starting point for a custom build.

Showing just over 95,000 miles, the truck wears silver paint over a straight body. The seller notes that the interior remains original, with all the lights, windows, and gauges still functioning as they should. Trim and glass are in good shape for the year, and while the rocker panels show some of the usual rust that plagues this era of C-10s, the floors are said to be solid. It’s presented as a usable driver today, while still offering plenty of room for a new owner to upgrade the cosmetics or suspension if they wish.

The best part of this Scottsdale may be under the hood. Power comes from a freshly rebuilt 350 cubic-inch small-block, paired with a TH350 automatic transmission that’s also been refreshed. The motor features new bearings, rings, cam bearings, valve springs, freeze plugs, and gaskets. A 260H RV cam provides a bit more grunt, while an aluminum intake with a Quadrajet carb feeds port-matched 194 heads. Supporting components like the HEI distributor, heavy-duty radiator, and dual exhaust round out a reliable, street-friendly build.

The transmission has been treated to Trans-Pac clutch plates, fresh valve body springs, bushings, seals, and a converter, making it just as road-ready as the engine. Suspension and brake work include new upper and lower ball joints, pitman and idler arms, belts, rear brake shoes, and a recent alignment. In short, the mechanical side of this truck has already had the big jobs handled, leaving cosmetic refinements or personalization to the next owner.

This Scottsdale also left the factory with air conditioning, adding another desirable feature to the mix. The seller is clear that the truck runs and drives well as it sits, but it’s also the perfect blank canvas for anyone looking to take a short-bed square-body to the next level—whether that means a fresh coat of paint, lowered suspension, or just continued use as a rugged daily driver.

With clean lines, a strong drivetrain, and the short-bed configuration everyone wants, this 1980 Chevy C-10 Scottsdale hits the sweet spot between project and turnkey driver.

Would you keep this truck close to stock and enjoy it as-is, or turn it into a custom build with modern flair?

Much more in line, and a great deal. I realize, had I gone viral, I could have gotten more, I’m just too nice a guy to do that,,,now, 126 viewers and ONE(1) bid?( the sellers?) I thought these were so sought after, well, amigo, it won’t get any better than this, what’s the delay? I’ll tell you what the delay is, it’s all malarkey. It’s certainly a nice enough, usable truck, what, no shiny paint, motor that would power a dragster and clown wheels? Malarkey, I tells ya’,,,

That’s not a short bed. It’s the standard bed, and too bad. If it was a short bed I’d be all over it! I used to have a ’75 short-bed square body with a 6 cylinder, nice truck until rust claimed it.

Are you sure, Terrry? Here’s a comparison with the front wheels lined up.

I love a ‘step side’ p/u. Yes they usually hada shorter bed (not necessary). And so the better to off-road (departure angle). My fav looking vehicle (even #1 over 50’s – 70s Italian) isa f250 4wd (6th gen) of this nature. I think they look like the 1st “Sports Truck” (less haulin in 2wd as road truck than the long bed or 4wd in the west. We have just too tight spaces, generally fora ‘big’ off-rd round me).

Give me this C-10 in short/long bed, step side (GM stoped the variety early 00’s along w/Chrysler, ford sallied-on till ’09). Not my fav gen of these fellas (earlier’n later better) I’d still select it for casual or work runs even w/others on the lot if having vinyl seat & due to dash board, paint scheme & automatic (for some more trafficky places). Minor points but enjoyed. Esp the vinyl. I get stuck to cloth seats dont need what others see as their advantages.

Thanks Elizabeth, this one’s just gettin broke in (Cali home = frame still OK).

Typical rusty Chevy, might have a great power train, but when it comes time to fix the rust the more you weld the bigger the holes get.

Not that rusty, considering where it is located. I think it is a pretty sweet little truck.
