Stalled Project: 1983 Pontiac Trans Am

This 1983 Pontiac Trans Am is a forgotten project that last saw some action around 2009. It’s since been left to collect dust in an Illinois garage but is claimed to be a good project by the seller, despite needing bodywork repairs, a fuel pump, and new tires – and likely more, based on the condition. Find the Pontiac here on eBay with a Buy-It-Now of $3,200 and the option to submit a best offer – but what’s that lurking behind it?

I do like to give sellers the benefit of the doubt, as there are plenty of items I’ve posted for sale at an elevated price in the hopes of getting a bottom-line number under the ask. This Trans Am, however, looks to need more work than I personally feel can be justified at the current price. There’s surface rust blossoming on the body in this picture along with deep scratches.

The interior looks fairly clean in the one full-size photo in the listing. This Trans Am is equipped with an automatic transmission but the seller doesn’t divulge where the shift action currently stands. The Trans Am shows just under 90,000 miles, so there’s a chance the interior remains in fairly good shape but is just in need of a serious cleaning.

The nose of the car reveals some winking action that is unintended but not uncommon with older vehicles equipped with pop-up lights. Vacuum lines or electrical connections fail, but it’s usually a simple fix. This Trans Am is equipped with Crossfire fuel injection and comes with a clean title, two of its better selling points. I suspect a best offer is needed to get this one sold.

It’s crossfire injected….leave it right where it is. If it were a TPI car it would be worth saving.

Lonely response on this one. Not at all desirable. Can find better examples for a sixth of the price of this one. That’s 500 or less for those of you who dont want to do the math.

It needs lock sillenders. Is that serious?

At $500 it would be a nice father/son project…some of the issues, like the motor on the headlight door is an easy fix – but only thanks to the aftermarket. Try finding something so simple for an early Fiero, and it becomes more challenging…hence my suggested $500 price of admission on this project.

CanuckCarGuy your admission price is right on. I don’t work on cars this “new” much so is there a carb swap for that cross fire set up that would make this a good driver for a young person ? cheap?

Does the cell phone that they used to take the pictures not have a flash? Or did the cat that owns this rig not have any friends that would hold a light so you could actually see something ?
