Step-Side Big-Window: 1958 Chevy Pickup

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Similar to VW Buses of the same era, Chevy pickups can have their value inflated by the type of window the cab is sporting. In the case of this 1958 Chevy Apache pickup, the rear glass is larger than other models and tends to get a bump in valuation from collectors as a result. This ’58 found here on eBay appears to need total restoration, but the seller calls it “solid.” Is that enough information to make a bid on?

Now, while it looks fairly rough, there’s no major evidence of rot. The bed fenders look pretty straight, although the rear bumper is not in the greatest shape. It appears the desirable big rear window is intact. The stepside rear is another potentially desirable feature depending on your Chevy truck preferences; if this one doesn’t catch your eye, check out our recent ’55 pickup Exclusive listing.

The interior is disappointing, with much of the dash torn apart and the metal surfaces all needing paint. The bench is the solitary high point, as the front glass is also missing. The truck, no matter how solid it may be, presents as one that’s been neglected for some time and will need extensive restoration just to be a runner again.

The motor was partially removed, now sitting haphazardly on the cross member. That doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, and also doesn’t sort out whether the engine is healthy or not. Despite these drawbacks, bidding is active with the reserve unmet, and the seller is aiming for a Buy-It-Now of $5,000. Do you think they’ll get it?

Owned a 58 Apache back in late 70’s. GREAT truck! Definitely brings back some memories. Wouldn’t mind getting another one. I’ll have to find out how close by this one is. $5K seems a bit steep though for what’s here.

Now that I looked at the ad, definitely too much for what’s there. IMO. Too bad. Not that far from me.

5K and $20K plus later you might have something. Great looking truck. But let’s face it. You can purchase one for less than you would have into this to bring it up to speed.

If you have that kind of money to spend on a resto. Then you may as well search out the right truck that fits your preferences, then personalize it to your taste. Hate to bag. But that’s a 2k vehicle at best. And that’s “if” he has the trans, and all the other parts for it.

Well if buy it now is 5K.
I would say that somebody is a dreamer. There is to much missing for me, and at 5K it would be an expensive parts truck. Engine barely having in there where is the tranny, the steering wheel laying in the bed does look like it came from this truck originally, so this would be a expensive truck to try and put back to as original as possible.
    IMO

Back in ’81 my father bought a rusty 58 Chevy truck like this. I begged him to let me drive it. He said I bet you can’t do it. I said oh yeah? Took the key and turned it
Nothing. Dead battery I thought. Nope. I never heard of a starter pedal before. I was really embarrassed

Being a half-hearted 4WD conversion with a ’70s frt axle, there’s a lot to put back in addition to all that’s missing. Nah.

Looks like lots of work; alignment would start with rear axle

I picked up a 1959 Apache awhile back and it has the big back window. My mechanic offered me $2000 sight unseen but I don’t know if I want to sell. Somebody had started restoring it before I got it but it needs cab corners and a lot of rust repair. I have to modify something because I have no leg room. Brian.

Had a ‘56 f250 I had bought for$2000. I hadn’t driven it for a day when this offered me 2500 there on the spot. I didn’t take it then I told him I wanted to enjoy it first.
