Storage Unit Find: 1973 Jensen Interceptor

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

A few years back, I had the opportunity to buy a Jensen Interceptor project for cheap. Unfortunately, by the time I got there with money, the owner had sold it to someone else. That was one of the few project cars I regret letting slip away, more often than not I’m glad they got away. Now, values are so high I can’t even afford a rough project. While I think the seller of this storage unit Interceptor is dreaming, they probably aren’t too far off on value if it’s complete and in decent shape. If you’ve been hunting for one and don’t want to let this one slip away, you can find it here on eBay in Vero Beach, Florida with an opening bid of $11k.

As you can see, there’s just one photo of this Jensen, which is a major reason I think the seller is dreaming. These cars can fetch serious money, but I would hope no one sends them $11k without seeing what kind of condition the rest of the car is in. While the  440 V8 engine and 727 transmission are standard Chrysler parts, the interior and body are all Jensen. The seller states that the car needs paint and that there is no rust, but that’s all they give us. This car seems like a huge gamble, as it could prove to be a good buy or a huge money pit. So, which do you think it will be?

Love the combo of big block grunt, luxury & distinctive good looks the Interceptor provides.
Drove one in high school for a year (belonged to a wealthy friend) & enjoyed the heck out of it.
But it had its issues, mainly electric gremlins shutting down the fun.
    Still love to have one

Looks to be complete “from the one photo” at least. Worth a pre purchase inspection.

The guy did try to sell this once before at 12K with no takers. Looking at his old listings, he sells misc finds and nothing at this level. I sent him a note suggesting he add some pictures.

Seriously? Decent, running Jensen hard-tops go for just a little more at auctions and those prices, unlike most classics, seem to be going down in recent years. People see the few highly-inflated-but-never-sold listings and think these cars are valuable. They aren’t. The much more rare convertible might fetch $30-40k in excellent condition. If this car were running, assembled and cleaned up, it might bring $15k. Oh…and they full of Lucas and Rover parts, which explains why the car is sitting in a garage abandoned. They are cool, classic cars and I know many who have owned one, but I don’t know anyone who owned one for long. About the seller, he does appear to have sold a decent looking Interceptor convertible for $38k and he does have a LOT of other cars listed. I would opt for the $14k Triumph stag he has if I were still collecting Triumphs…or the 230SL if it wasn’t missing the $5k grill.

Did Interceptors even come with a no rust option?

Well, being that these rusted while you watched….and the fact seller states no rust – that is worth the price of admission as long as the mechanicals are there.
Looks pretty damn good from the one picture. My issue with these and probably the rason I never owned one is that they were all automatics. Big block (hopefully the 440 version) and a stick would be righteous!

And a Chrysler automatic at that. Chrysler, during that era, couldn’t make transmissions. Love the look, wouldn’t have the tranny.

Interceptor prices were low forever but have been trending up recently. This one looks like the rear hatch isn’t rusty, which is a good sign as that’s a weak spot.

One crappy picture isn’t enough to make this worth bidding $11K on. What’s visible looks promising though.
