This 1952 Studebaker Land Cruiser has been sitting in storage for the last 41 years. It has just been removed from storage and the seller is looking to move the car on. Located in Springfield, Virginia, it is listed for sale here on Craigslist. It is offered with a clean title, and the seller has set a sale price of $4,400 on this classic.
The seller states that the car is a “little old lady” car that has spent the last 41 years stored sitting on a sheet of 1/2″ plastic. Even so, there are signs here that the conditions were still not ideal. The green on the tires and the lower edges of the doors looks like mold, and there appears to be corrosion in areas such as the region around the drip rails. Having said that, none of the corrosion actually looks to be particularly bad. The frustrating thing is that we can only see one side of the car, and there are no interior or engine bay shots to help us here.
This is as close as we get to a close shot of the interior. Coupled with the first shot in this article, it appears that the interior is complete. What we can see in this shot is that there appears to be some substantial staining on the rear seat. Beyond that, there is little that we can tell. The car is also fitted with the original AM radio.
It is frustrating when there is so little information to work with. What we know is that the car is fitted with the 232.6ci V8 that was introduced to the range in 1951, and this is backed by a manual transmission. Beyond that, we have no indication of the condition of the engine or the rest of the drive-train. The seller states that there is a new fuel pump and other new parts included with the sale, but does not elaborate on what these parts are.
Prices for these Land Cruisers remain surprisingly modest. While there doesn’t seem to be many on the market, prices for good ones seem to range in the $10,000-$12,000 region. This example has already been reduced from $6,200 to its current price, so there may be room there to negotiate a deal on this one.
This car has been for sale for at least three years .I have seen the ad for that many years .And it doesn’t run. You would think the owner would get it running unless it will not run because of some major engine problem.
I looked at it at least 5 years ago and it had been sitting outside for several years before that. Pix haven’t changed over the years either, its always on Craigslist, only the price changes- up and down
Too bad, must be something seriously wrong here. The suicide doors and v8 are a nice touch though.
A sheet of 1/2 inch plastic? What?
I love this site I’m up to 67 cars in my minds eye.
I’ve recently done two basic restorations, 56 Tbird and a Mercury my Aunt left me. My Wife is now saving up for 9 mm daring me to buy…one more car.
But that said I’d like to tackle this car. With limited pictures it is a bit bothersome. As well as Fred H comments about being for sale for some time.
My 1st grade teacher had one, she drove down my street one day, only then did I realize I couldn’t out run a Studebaker.
Later my friend had one, I opened backdoor nearly sucked out onto the hwy.
It was then I understand why they are called suicide doors.
I’d own more cars than Leno if I could but sadly, last time I looked, I didn’t have $400,000,000 in the bank. :(
1/2 inch wide, not thick!!
With out the bullet nose just another ugly old car. Doesn’t match or even fore tell the coming streamlined beauty of 1953. An automotive loser.
Holy cow, that alleged interior shot looks like a Monet water lily painting with a guy drowning & a couple cigarette butts being tossed into the water.
