Stored Since 1984: 1976 Chevrolet Camaro

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This one owner 1976 Chevrolet Camaro has been sitting in storage since 1984. The car has had the paint stripped ready for a refresh, but now it is up for sale. You will find the Camaro listed for sale here on Craigslist. It is located in Mayo, South Carolina, and is being offered for sale with a clean title. The owner of this Camaro has set a sale price of $2,750.

According to the owner, this Camaro started life painted silver but has been the subject of several repaints throughout its life. It has now been stripped again. This has some positives and some negatives to it. The negative is that the car now carries a reasonable coating of surface corrosion that will need to be addressed. The positive is the fact that without paint, it is impossible to disguise any rust issues in the body. While the photos aren’t the greatest, it does appear that the panels and rockers are solid. There is no mention of the state of the floors or frame, so that is also an unknown. All of the trim is present, although quite a bit has been removed. The seller states that the only items that are missing are the headlight rings and the original air cleaner off the engine.

Considering the first impression that the exterior of the Camaro makes, the interior looks to be quite reasonable. The carpet will need replacing, the console also appears to be damaged and there are a couple of smaller items missing, but the rest looks like it will clean up quite well. The car is fitted with a tilt wheel, power windows, power locks, and rear defrost. It also looks like an aftermarket radio/cassette player has been fitted, but it doesn’t look like the dash has been cut to fit it.

Under the hood is a 350ci V8 4-barrel, which is backed by an automatic transmission. The seller doesn’t indicate the condition of the engine, so that is another unknown quantity. The car is also fitted with air conditioning. I would dearly like to know the state of the engine as if it needs major work, then that could negatively impact the viability of this project.

The owner describes this Camaro as a perfect father/son project, and on the face of it, he could be right. Certainly, the lack of paint means that it’s virtually impossible to disguise any rust issues. The unknown state of the engine is definitely a negative, so that is something that will need to be considered. Is this a project that you would take on?

Disguise any rust issues? The whole car is a rust issue! Smooth move stripping the paint off before they stored it. How much would a few spray cans of primer cost?

How many repaints does a car 8 years old need? Something fishy.

Seems odd a factory silver over red car would upset someone to want to paint it British Racing Green!!!??? With that red interior that must have been some horrible combo. Having parts removed just emphasizes how cluttered this 2nd gen design was getting by 1976. Definitely needs the spoiler in the back. Dash also appears to have some soda spilled on it (1984 Pepsi?) or something equally icky to have to deal with.

I’d be completely blown away if someone gave even HALF the asking price. $500 would be a generous offer!

You know when someone negates to mention anything about the running condition of the engine I automatically assume it’s junk and needs to in the least be rebuilt!

Never seen the attraction this Camero body style. I would only take on if it was free and I could immediately flip it.
