I don’t know about you, but I can just feel the cold when I look at that backdrop of a snowy, wintery Idaho farm field. I’m guessing this Ford F250 was quickly whisked back into its garage where it’s probably spent most of the past 35 years, because this 1987 Ford F250 Lariat XLT 4×4 is in remarkable condition for a pickup. The story and history behind this Ford isn’t shared, but the seller claims the F250 has “excellent ownership history including a service book and original owner documentation.” It’s obviously led a pampered life. Located in Caldwell, Idaho, this fully-loaded Ford is for sale here on eBay. As of this writing, it had generated 18 bids with the highest bid topping out at $9,000.
1987 marked the first year of the eighth generation of the Ford F-Series. Styling was more streamlined with a more aerodynamic front end and new composite headlamps, plus it was the first pickup to offer rear antilock brakes. And for the first time, all Ford models were produced with straight-sided Styleside beds. The overall condition of this 35-year-old SuperCab pickup is impressive. Its wearing its original “Deluxe Tu-tone” brown and tan paint that appears to be in very good condition. Based on the photos, I’m not spotting any dents or rust or issues that raise a brown and tan flag, although there are no photos of the pickup’s bed. Based on the photos, the chrome bumpers, trim, glass, original hubcaps and everything else rounding out the exterior looks very good as well.
I hope the next owner likes tan and brown, because the color theme continues into the pickup’s impressive cabin which Ford completely redesigned in 1987. It’s not perfect, but it’s well above average. This Lariat XLT is loaded with creature comforts including air conditioning, power windows, power steering, power brakes, power locks, cruise control, a leather-wrapped tilt steering wheel, and still has its original radio. We’re assuming they’re all in good working order. The front bench seat looks comfortable with no visible flaws and the back vinyl “seating area,” which can fold down to be a storage shelf, looks like new. The carpet, dash, headliner and other details shown in the photos also look terrific.
There’s only one photo of the F250’s power plant, the original 460-cubic inch V8 that generated 225 horsepower that’s paired with a 4-speed floor shift manual transmission. The seller claims the 84,900 miles showing on the odometer are original and that the Lariat XLT has “4 wheel drive with locking hubs, manual shift 2WD 4 Hi and 4 Low options.” Yessir, I’d like to know the story behind this well-preserved pickup. It looks about as nice as a 35-year-old pickup can be.
Really nice truck! I was impressed, until I got to the
“460 V8” part.
What kind of mileage do these get,35 mpg?
I have a friend with an ’88 F250 with a 460. He reports around 13mpg average, unless he’s pulling a trailer. Then it’s single digits.
My daughter had the same but 2wd and automatic trans. she could never get below 9 mpg ! But the axle was 4.10/1 (C5 code on door sticker), this has a C9 code = 3.55/1, much better if you don’t pull a big trailer …
I had a 4wd 1989 F250 regular cab longbed with a 460 and a 3-speed C6 transmission.
It got 10.5 mpg on the freeway at 60 mph, and it got 10.5 mpg hauling 3000 pounds of concrete through logging roads.
More like 3.5 mpg. These came with dual saddle tanks. I had an 81 F250 with a 351M. Each tank was 19 gallons. Before that had a 73 Dodge D200 club cab that had a main fuel tank of 21 gallons and 2 saddle tanks.
This is a very nice truck. It even comes with 2 smog pumps! MPG range is no different than any other big block V8. 10 mpg unloaded 7-8 mpg loaded.
Can’t get a better Pickup unless it was the 1 ton chasis. What a beautifully equipped rig.
Was going to say it was the first year for fuel injection, but that clearly isn’t. My 88 and 89 were. This truck is in amazing shape. But I suspect it will nickel and dime you to death with age related failures.
FI was available but not with the 460 ci. Only on the 302.
4 bbl, non catalyst.
I have a 1979 F 350 ,4 wheel drive regular cab. Owned it since 98 love the truck ,it is immaculate and only has 39000 miles on it and has never been out in the winter. Has a 460 fuel injected gas engine with 3.55 rear.have a hard time getting more than 10mpg. But I love the truck and enjoy the ride
I learned how to drive a manual on a 1990 F-150 regular cab longbed 2WD in this exact ta/brown two tone color combo. Is dated in such an awesome way.
Plus dual gas tanks and a floor high beam switch.
