Supremely Clean: 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

UPDATE – We’ve made a correction to the article. The VIN shows that this car’s 307 is not the high-output model, but is actually the base engine that produces just 140 horsepower. Thanks to JH for pointing this out!

Over the past few years, the G-Body series of GM products has really grown on me. It feels just like yesterday that examples just like this 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass were just used cars that littered the back of almost every dealership, but as time has marched on, cars like this have slowly disappeared. And now that you really don’t see them very often, I’ve come to realize just how cool they actually are! This example has the added bonus of being in really nice condition throughout and the seller believes it’s very original. You can find it here on eBay in Mansfield, Ohio with an opening bid price of $10,000.

So, admittedly, I can’t say for sure that this example is worth $10k+. If it were a Buick Grand National, then it would easily be worth that and then some, but the standard Oldsmobile version with all its comfy velour has a hard time fetching the big money, although their values do seem to be trending upwards. Honestly, I’m alright if these stay affordable. There needs to be some interesting classics that aren’t high dollar and this seems like a great entry into the hobby. It’s new enough to have the kind of comforts most of us have grown accustomed to, but still simple enough that anyone can wrench on it. The 307 V8 won’t be winning any races, with its 180 140 ponies, but again that’s alright. Not every classic needs to be doing burnouts at the dragstrip.

While the exterior styling of the G-Body cars has really grown on me, the interior of this Olds is what really stands out to me. The cloth-covered seats look to be in great shape and are surely as comfortable as any couch. You won’t find any modern cars with an interior quite like this! I also doubt you can find too many new cars with manual windows, it seems like even the cheapest cars have power windows these days. Given that this car has A/C, I doubt you’ll be winding the windows up and down much.

The seller believes that this car is all original, although they do note that the car supposedly had some body damage prior to them purchasing it. They haven’t been able to find any signs of that being the case. A closer inspection might be in order. Overall, it looks to be in Supreme condition inside and out, so I could definitely believe that this car is a survivor. So, are you a G-Body fan? If so, this one might just be worth a closer look!

No link to the eBay ad.

The first two photos appear to have been taken with a very blue filter. Note the light blue visible in he door jamb on the third photo.

What’s up with the back of the drivers seat. Unless that’s an electric model it’s out of line with the passenger seat back, and the cushion is indented bottom and backrest.

I feel the alignment and the indentations are acceptable for a car it’s age.

5.3 powertrain swap and head for the boulevard 🙌 maybe some stiffer front springs so she sits proper, nice and level
Great front end, one of the best 👌

It’s rare to still find them like this, all original, not advertising for a race parts catalog either.sometimes you just leave it the way it is.maybe a stereo upgrade and a 134a a/c conversion and just cruise in it.

Nice, clean olds Cutlass. One outstanding car that GM probably manufactured over a million of these during its run over the years! Used to see them everywhere!

Yes, they were very popular, going back to the 70’s models. At one time the two-door personal luxury coupe was the ‘sweet spot’ for the industry. So it is strange to realize that, not only is Oldsmobile gone, the two-door personal luxury coupe barely even exists today as an industry segment. And, if you would have back then predicted that the four-door pickup would become the ‘sweet spot’ for the industry, no one would have believed you.

      Attractive car.
