Surf And Turf: 1969 Dodge Corey Camper

You probably haven’t seen too many of these. The Corey Cruiser (C.C.) was a factory authorized camper conversion that filled the space between a motorhome and towable trailer.  The ad for this specific project indicates it is a 1969 Dodge A108 C. C.  The current listing is found here on Craigslist with an asking price of $12,900, located in Tequesta (Palm Beach), Florida.  A van very similar to this one sold on eBay in 2013 for just over $5,100 and this exact van was for sale earlier this year in California. Have these vans increased 150% in value in four years? I doubt it. Especially with the work that this one needs to make it a cool cruiser again.

The interior “camper” features of this van are completely gone.  In its place, you have some nice artificial turf.  While this does limit the nostalgic factor of an original camper, it is a blank slate for the new owner to finish it how they like.  According to The Murphy Auto Museum, these vans included the following as standard equipment:  V8 engine with an automatic transmission, air conditioning, sleeping for up to 4, refrigerator, gas range with oven, hot water heater, furnace, sink and wall to wall carpeting.  The ad claims this van was owned by a “skateboard pioneer” so maybe they stripped it to have more room for hauling half-pipes?

The front of the passenger compartment seems pretty typical of a driven vehicle that is nearly fifty years old.  It doesn’t appear to have been abused or modified.  It looks like it could be a driver as-is.  Dig the sheepskin seat covers, original gauges and steering wheel.

There has been buzz around the van world in the past few years. Specifically, Volkswagen vans have set auction records including a 1963 23-window that sold at Barrett-Jackson in 2011 for over $200,000.  This 1969 Dodge features 25 windows!  While it may not be a six-figure project, this van will be a fun one when it’s done. How would you finish it? Restoration, surf cruiser, modified camper, or?

unfortunatly I like em w/o all the windows. This one’s great 4 a ‘people mover’.
Love the stand up head room & there’s the only windows I’d leave. Easy nuff change but would hate to ruin w/a conversion (just mig in panels).

I bet a bent8 fills the doghouse w/no room to spare but might B nice to stay inside to due tuneups or trouble shoot in a storm.

This posting has been deleted by its author. And it looks to me like the roof was installed backwards.

Nope leiniedude, it looks strange, but the roof is correct. My Parents belong to a Good Sam Camping Club back in the 60’s thru the 80’s, which allow them to camp in private camping places. My Uncle and Aunt also belong, and had one of these camping Vans for years. Both families camped a lot together.
Theirs slept 4 easy as long as 2 where kids. After a few year and My Cousins grew bigger we would all share a tent together and the parents slept in the van.
Also Chad you are correct pain in the butt to tune up. But any van of those eras where. My Folks had a 77 Chevy with a 350, back in the day, and to change spark plugs it was easier to take the front tires off and go in through the tire well!!!!
      Been here done that.

A really nicely preserved one, intact with all it’s appliances and furnishings sold in scottsdale a few years ago for $11,000. I couldn’t pull the trigger for what seemed like a novelty conversation piece. Even though I loved it. Then I went back to my motorcoach, watched a movie and took a shower ….. Ahhhh the comforts of home.

Maybe it belonged to Tony Hawk ?LOL…
wonder who this “pioneer”was…?That would determine
    what I would do with it.Cool vans,but I don’t like all
the glass. Some “pioneer”skater somewhere out there,
is missing out on his big payoff…right now…LOL..

I would use this as a wheelchair van for my mother in law. After sorting the
mechanicals, it could be driven while the renovations were being completed.
While I’d have to haggle with him on the price, it would still be a bargain to
me as even a well-used wheelchair van fetches at least $100K all day long.
What’s worse, a brand new model can command upwards of $350K! This
van is a blank canvas just waiting for a manually operated ramp, tie downs,
and some interior upgrades to make it an ideal vehicle to transport Mom
and the rest of us wherever we want to go complete with Mom’s scooter.
Love that Copper paint too! Would repaint it that way again. I can gaurantee
you that I’d never see another one like it.
