By ’73, the 454 was the most powerful engine you could get in a Corvette. At just 275 horsepower, it certainly wasn’t anything to get excited about, but there is definitely some potential to be had here. This example is said to be a survivor and it looks it. The paint has seen better days and the original front bumper “dried up and fell off”, so it needs some cosmetic work. The 454 is running and has a few bolt on upgrades. Overall, this looks like a respectable car and can be found here on eBay in West Des Moines, Iowa.
As for the upgrades, it sounds like they are limited just to headers and removal of the emission’s equipment. The seller kept all the original parts though, so if you need to, you could return it to original. Here in Idaho, you don’t have to emission test something this old, so I would leave it as is and just enjoy the extra power. Install a new carburetor and intake manifold and you would have a pretty hot machine! These weren’t really meant to be sports car, they are more grand touring cars, but they can be quick when built correctly. And that 454 gives you more than enough power to cruise comfortably on the street or the highway!
nothing that some l-88 parts wouldnt fix
I remember these as being more “fast ” than “quick”, but really nice cars.
This appears to be the best Corvette “project” car shown here in a long time. You could choose to drive it or if one was so inclined, it could probably get to NCRS -level condition. Nice car if it could be purchased for $12,000 max.
I really despise those luggage racks! (IMO) they spoil the good looks of this
car! :-)

You’re never tried to take a trip in one have you? I have, trust me there’s little free space, especially if you’re in a convertible. I wish I had a luggage rack on mine but they are made of unobtainium these days. I have to leave the soft top up just to have space for a couple of small soft bags and a small tool bag. If you try it, don’t plan to be gone for more than a couple/three days or find Laundromats along the way.
The car isn’t one I’d go looking for. Not a BBC fan in a Vette and unless it’s primarily a city car, definitely want a manual tranny.
Nice Vette !
