Survivor Swinger: 1975 Dodge Dart

dart1

This 1975 Dodge Dart Swinger here on eBay has a mere 21,000 miles on the clock, and its stunning condition is driving bidders to push this car to close to $10,000 with plenty of time left in the auction. Equipped with a 318 V8, the Dart has been with the same owner since new and is incredibly well preserved.

Now, when I say “original owner”, keep in mind it now resides with a dealer after being parked in the same driveway since new. I don’t get too worked up about this – the original owner probably feels like they got a fair deal, and if this seller makes some money, it’s a free country! I can’t say I blame him or her for wanting to own this particular Dart, however – just look at how minty fresh that interior is.

The engine bay is like a color photo from an original sales brochure. All the factory stickers are still in place, and the seller claims it runs like a top. As an added bonus, this factory A/C car has been upgraded to R134A, so there’s no need for the seller to say, “It just needs a charge.”

The one change from stock that I disagree with are the modern American Racing wheels. I know they are a homage to a vintage design, but I wish this Dart still wore its original wheels to complete the look of a car that is bone-stock from new. But I’m sure it adds some eyeball appeal to what is already a very pretty car. Where do you think the bids will end up?

“Where do you think the bids will end up?”
No idea. That’s already crazy money for this. That said, it’s 40 years old and in this condition and mileage it’ll last another 40 easily even with daily driving. I’ve had numerous Darts / Valiants of this vintage (as well as other similar MoPars) and it’s the rust that kills them. If you want comfort, style, and mechanical durability and aren’t concerned about speed, this is a great car.
The price? I guess that’s up to the bidders.

WELL being a full fledge Technician for Diamler Chrysler for over twenty-seven years and seeing these cars around id have to say if the milage is correct and it is oem then this car should be able to reach the 15k in my opinion, this is based on the power plant though do to the late model 318cin isn’t the power house like they had in the earlier model cars 70’s and below, and of course which Trans it has and what rear end size is But it sure is a looker owner did a great job keeping her as clean as can be..LOOKS LIKE A BETTSY CAR….LOL…

Wow, this car is really a good find. This may be the real car behind the “grandma only drove it to church” story. Somebody is going to get a great car.

Very sharp looking car. With the 318 it would be a nice cruiser.

I see these sell needing work in the 4 to 6 thousand range. If you can get this in survivor condition for 10 to 15 thousand I think you got a deal in the long run. You can enjoy it for a few years and sell it for most if not all of your money back. Good simple car and easy to keep on the road, easy to hot rod should one be inclined.

I had a 71 Swinger – Loved it! I put Rally wheels on it. Looked great. Found some NICE seats for it out of a 4 dr car (all I could find) and had a great car. Paid $600 with 78K miles on it in 1987. And now they are going up like everything else. Great cars, Wish I had the money for it. Would love to have it. Traded a buddy so my car didn’t go to a dealer as a trade in for a car for the wife. My buddy rebuilt the drivetrain and drove it a good long time after that. Finally it laid down on him and he sold it to a guy that wanted to make a drag car out of it. Not sure how that story ended up.

This one looks nice as the day it was built. Yeah the day 2 wheels are a choice that could go either way. Could put Mopar Rallyes on it. I also had a set of dog dishes on mine when I first bought it. Thoise gave it a “detective car” look. lol

Wow, what a nice looking Dart! I really hated the big bumpers on the last of the Darts, but at least they are not rusty. Looking at the pictures on EBay it looks very original, until I made it to the trunk pictures. I have owed many A Body Chryslers, Darts, Demons and Dusters over the years, I currently have a restored 1970 Swinger 340, Chrysler never did a special paint in the trunk, it was just body color. It looks like someone sprayed something in the trunk on an otherwise very original Dart. That would not stop me from buying it, but you have to wonder why they did that?

This one certainly is a nice piece, but I myself believe 1975 was not a good year for mopars. The first unleaded fuel models and pollution controls were in full engine-strangulation mode! We once used a new loaner Plymouth Valiant from our dealer for a few days that year, and the poor sedan had something called a “fuel pacer system”. A moped had more power. The Dart featured is an average car in outstanding shape all over plus being a hardtop, and those are what will bring the money…originalty and condition.

Things are to clean to be a 40 year old car without being redone. I would want paint meter readings and underside pictures if spending 10-15000. Still is a nice looking car.

I’ve had several of these and in my book, they’re just about the perfect blend between daily driver and investment collector car. Unfortunately, all of mine were automatics, but I can’t sing the praises of this body design loudly enough.

But, leave it to some sleazy used-car lot to lie about it being a one-owner, and he’s probably the jerk who put those stupid wheels on “so it will go faster!” (Which is why I never buy cars from dealers.)

I love Darts, but this is stupid money for the least desirable year. The 318 in this car makes 145 HP not 230. Too much balloon juice from the dealer, and I’d be curious to know what he paid the old man for it.

I cannot believe the condition this thing is in. You just do not see this. I can imagine the dealership owner when he took that ca in sitting behind the wheel, looking around him and imagining that it is ’75 again.

In the 1980,s I had a 1975 dodge swinger EXACTLY like this one. It was no Hi- po car but I always thought it had adequate power and speed for regular everyday driving. Not every car has to be High performance to be enjoyed. Speed and performance are what motorcycles are for. LOL
