And now, for something completely different, a VW Beetle-bodied tracked Ice Bug, uh, thing. From (where else?) The Great White North, Huntsville, Ontario, Canada comes a (presumably) one-of-a-kind ice fishing transporter complete with two holes, live wells, and a clam shelter that clips onto the back. Just reading about it makes you want to order Tim Horton’s and some Molsons, eh? The listing here on kiji.ca includes a brief description and states the seller aims to swap for maybe an aluminum boat and trailer. Thanks to reader Gord for the tip!
This “600 Triple” may be a Yamaha or Polaris inline three-cylinder snowmobile engine, making this a rare front-engine classic VW Beetle.
Ready to explore a frozen lake near you, or perhaps the moon, this ingenious vehicle packs enough LED lights to blaze a trail through a blizzard and let your buddies know you’re coming.
Don’t let the lack of a driver’s seat scare you. The tiller-type steering can (apparently) be operated from either bench seat. No stopping necessary, just say “Yeah; I’m tired of driving so why don’t you take over, eh?” What would you trade for this interesting ice fishing accessory?
Toque extra, eh?
I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!
Yeah i want that.
This is something that I would expect to see Red and Harold tool around Possum Lodge in.
Hey I think the tip came from Ranger Gord.
You could be right. I see duct tape…
Beauty eh? Hopefully never be a water beetle
How cool it that!
Like the other side of the pillow eh .. .
It’s obviously built for a very specific purpose, but I’m really impressed with the workmanship. If someone did this in his garage, he’s the kind of guy I think we all enjoy knowing.
Eh? ???
Horrible! It breaks my heart to see a vintage VW bug butchered and cut up into such a monstrosity.
Sorry that one of 21 million cars was brutally turned into a useful vehicle 😏
I mean this from a vw company with high such standards that cheated in the diesel scandal computers to beat environmental laws and tested fumes on pets and humans … 😉
Oh well i do think one has the option to buy this and convert it back to a beetle in original form..
I do think the Beetle is one fine durable car that made an impact on the World..
Good luck in the sale.
The fact that this is in Canada, the car was most likely rusted beyond repair before they started this project.
well don’t buy it and you will have no problems will ya! they were cheap junk when they were new and now they are rare classics ! hey rube wanna buy a bridge cheap eh?
i think they’re aftr mrkt glass panels.
Would not want for the trails or a faster pace.
Plod along on a river, lake, yes…
glass panels, no?
That is an Arctic Cat motor. A ZRT triple, triple.
I know VW purists will cringe, but coming from N. Wis. I can say, this is simply the coolest thing. I never ice fish, but this incorporates everything in one package. Yeah, that AC triple is a bit much, I’m familiar with the Polaris triple, ungodly fast, if you could get it started, that is. I’d go for a more utilitarian setup for slow going, I bet that motor, with chambers will make this thing go 100 mph, and that’s pure suicide. Very cool otherwise. Someone did a lot of work here.
Um, Unique.
How many beetles have a rear door, with a house-style knob for entry/exit?
What puzzles me is where the operator sits. I see benches on both sides of the center, but no seat behind the controls. Don’t tell me that the driver is expected to stand while (cruising) blasting across the frozen tundra?
We need more finds like this than the rusty junk that has been showing up here so often. Cool rig. Looks well done also!
Sadly not much use in Las Vegas…
Sure there is take it in the sand dunes or use it to rattle snake hunt!!!
Looks like a quality build but it’s amazing what rednecks and molsen can do!!!
This is what happens up north when your hardware store is hours away and the garage is full of parts from this and that, slush when popping a few beers! Nice project and love the wood trim!
dang it boys will you all stop complaining,,,,can’t you see it now,,middle of winter,,20 below,, wife naggin,,,let’s go ICE FISHIN,,,,,,awsome little rig,,,,
LOL, Bob & Doug McKinzie popped into mind when you wrote about the Molson’s and Tim Horton’s. Eh, indeed!
Take off you hosers!
At least they used a Super Beetle. No loss….
