There are very few “good” values left in the vintage sports car world. Prices have almost uniformly blown up across the board with all of the exotic brands, so finding a reasonable point of entry for these thoroughbreds has become increasingly hard to do. The Ferrari 308 GT4 represents one of the few remaining F-cars that can be bought for a decent price and it still has plenty of upside, so take a look at this 1980 model year example listed here on Facebook Marketplace for $36,000.
Thanks to Barn Finds reader Patrick S. for the find. The seller does not appear to be a Ferrari specialist of any kind, or even a European specialty shop that has experience working with vintage motors like these. With that in mind, I do feel the asking price is high, even if it’s still very affordable for a vintage Ferrari. This is where marketing dollars actually make sense spending, as it’s going to be hard for someone who knows these cars to feel good about forking over close to $40,000 to someone who doesn’t.
The Ferrari is located in Ocoee, Florida, and it appears to be in decent condition considering I doubt it has seen the inside of a service facility for many years. But don’t let that stop you if you’re in the market: the mid-engine V8 design is downright exotic, especially for the money, and one of the model’s primary evangelists is none other than automotive journalist Jason Cammisa, who considers his GT4 one of the best driving cars he’s ever owned. And let’s face it: for under $40,000, you’re getting a classic gated shifter, a midship V8, and gorgeous “wedge” styling.
Now, here’s my favorite detail about this car: that sticker in the back glass is a fixture of European market vehicles. Whether it was sold in the UK or in Germany, many cars of a certain age have the selling dealer’s name on a sticker in the middle of the back glass (this must have been before dealer plate frames became a thing.) If you Google the name, “Charles Pozzi” is indeed a Ferrari dealer in France, and the car has another sticker on the other side that features the namesake of the Ferrari owner’s club in France. It means this is almost certainly a gray market car with U.S. market bumpers, which makes it even more intriguing. If I was on the hunt for a “cheap” Ferrari, this is where I’d start – but preferably a bit closer to $30,000.
I have to say the 308 GT4 is one of the best-driving cars I’ve ever driven! While that probably won’t mean anything to anyone, I have cycled through a lot of cars….
This one may not be, though. Looking at the photos reveals needed corrective work that will run up the cost like the National Debt Clock. And that’s not counting whatever worn or broken bits that await underhood.
But if anyone spends the time and loot needed — I would, assuming I had that much — these are great-sounding, sweet-handling, speedy machines that, at least to my eyes, look very nice.
They may be the entry-level Ferrari, but that’s entering pretty high up the ladder!
The only Ferrari to own is one that has been meticulously maintained and documented. This one has neither which is unfortunate. I look at this shake my head and then walk away.
Look at that interior, being it Ocala, Florida, it looks like a gator got loose inside it. For anyone doing a full Ferrari restoration, the italian leather alone will cost you 2k. I agree there are really no bad Ferrari’s, but seeing the new Movie about the man himself, building a car like this for the French market is definitely not his idea. 35K would seem reasonable as easily another 35k will be needed to get this car roadworthy. The grey market tags may delay registration should be noted if not up to date. Ocala is known for junkyard scams so be real careful. At least someone can say they own a Ferrari, drivable or not.

ERROR: Ocoee is west of Orlando, which is approx. 70 miles south of Ocala. I would also be interested in evidence of the “junkyard scams” accusation. FYI: I have lived in the area for 54 years.
What’s going on with that panel hanging in front of the passenger seat??
that’s where the fuse panel is
I have always liked the looks of these, does not run, has not been started in 8 years!! Do not walk away, run away!!
I’ve heard Jason Cammisa rave quite a bit about his 308 GT4, seems to really like it. He made a pretty cool video about the Dino and 308 GT on YouTube.
No such thing as a
“cheap Ferrari”
I’d say the price is way out of line. 15K – 20K tops

I bought a good running one for $12,000 twenty years ago. It came with a California salvage title but tge good folks at the Oregon DMV issued a clean title! 1975 is pre-carfax so I doubt any subsequent owners had any idea. No evidence of damage or repair either.

It’s a shame, cause a DIY guy or hobby enthusiast that had too much time could probably work this out, if it was a 10k or 12k buy in. But at that price, the big name guys would swoop in before the regular guy could pull open his purse full of moths, lol…..the GT4 has a sweet dash setup, vying with the Daytona and 246 for greatest looking dashes, not to mention a sweet mid v8/5speed setup, they are known to be excellent drivers
Nope, even if I had the money. You could probably buy a Virginia Class Attack Submarine for the money you’d have to spend getting this thing road ready.
