The Nicest 1985 VW Scirocco Around?

1985 VW Scirocco

This seller makes a pretty bold claim when they state that their Scirocco is the nicest example left on the road. While it is definitely clean and in good shape, I’m sure there are nicer examples out there. That’s actually a good thing if you ask me though, because if I’m buying a car like this I want it to be nice enough to have fun driving it, but not so nice that I’m constantly worried about keeping it in perfect shape. Sciroccos are relatively rare on our shores, so it should be a real eye catcher at local gatherings. You can have a closer look at this low mileage survivor here on eBay in Woodland Hills, California with a current bid of $3,350.

This VW is really nice and while they are rare here, getting any tuneup or replacement parts to keep it that way should be easy. Having worked on a Rabbit GTI, I know how tricky the injection system can be to work on if you aren’t familiar with how they work, but once you figure them out they are pretty straight forward. This could be a really great driver and while I appreciate that the seller is proud of their car, I’m glad it isn’t the nicest example around. These cars are meant to be driven and that’s what I hope happens with this one!

Sweet little cars, and if there are no hidden problems it’s well worth the money. Looks like the 60K mileage showing on the odo might be all the use it has had, too, though I’d want to know where it has been, as the license plate isn’t original.

Personally, I’m more attracted to the 16V model, a real screamer back in the day. But I’d take this. Someone apparently will end up with a real bargain!

seller has 5 vehicles for sale on ebay. i would love to have this but i think the reserve is going to be high and i too would want to make this a driver. while a 16v motor is nice this will run good with the 8v motor. great find

Pretty. Agree with Jim – the reserve is most likely set too high with the seller eyeing where recent 16V prices have been going. But this isn’t a 16V, and those were very different cars (my first new car was an ’88 16V, and it felt like a night and day difference from my roommate’s earlier ’83 8V).

Unfortunately, a lot of Mk1 and Mk2 Scirocco parts are NLA, so you need to start with the best example available, and hopefully have good connections in the aftermarket community to keep it up. I bought an ’84 with some needs a few years ago, and finding NOS parts seemed like a full-time job…

Can anyone come up with a second gen car that’s superior to the original?

The Mk1 Scirocco’s style was classic. The MK2? Meh.

The 280Z? Nice ride. 280ZX? Meh.

T-bird? Beauty. Second gen? Not so much.

Mustang? Say no more. Mustang II? Puh-leeeze.

My first car was an 82 Scirocco, the 8V cars aren’t very fast, you can trick them up a little bit, but if I was going to re-visit this body I would opt for a 16V, it will be more collectible later too.

First thing I’d want to do with this is fit the European style Bumpers as the ones fitted are awful looking! Also pretty sure that the under bumper Fog lamps are missing even though the brackets are shown in one of the photos?
