Think Pink: 1956 Cadillac Series 62

Offered for sale here on craigslist in St. Louis, Missouri, is this 1956 Cadillac Series 62. The photos show a very straight body, that appears to have minimal rust, and possibly even original white paint. The lower trim strips have been removed from the body, and hopefully are included. Still sporting the “dagmar” bumper on the front, the chrome on it looks pretty close to being presentable. In the event of a proper restoration, chrome plated trim that is already nice to start with, will slightly reduce the size of the pile of cash it would take to have all re-done. The body looks very straight, although the seller basically does nothing to tell us this, other than the few photos.

The one shot of the dashboard, and the seller’s description tells us the dash has already been re-painted in the original color, which is light pink. Did this car come with a white body, trimmed out with pink, black and white interior? Sounds appealing, in a retro sort of way. Too bad the seller doesn’t tell us, and there aren’t any photos of it, except this one of the dash, which also shows this car’s promotion to “parts storage warehouse” status.

The right side looks just as good. Unfortunately, no shots of the rear are provided. Excellent photos of the engine compartment and the trunk are also lacking. It’s up to us to imagine for ourselves how solid the rocker panels and floors are with this beautiful land yacht. A few words about the condition (or perhaps basic existence of) the drive train would also be nice. As we all know, cars with lots of chrome are expensive to restore. But fabulously huge Cadillacs of this vintage are worth it, and bring big bucks in return if finished properly. I’d like to see someone take advantage of this seller’s laziness and snap this up. If the body is really as good as it looks, it’s a great deal and will sell fast at this price. So how do you see it? All original with white, pink and black? White over black, vice-versa? Red? Mint green? How much do you think all the chrome plating will cost?

the original color pink? why not? it would be a nice looking car when restored a tweak here and there ( I would imagine the suspension will need a redo) radials , a modern sound system … and, yes, glasspacks or flomasters would be a sweet ride

That is what a supercharged Northstar is for.

I suspected as much due to the front of the car being so high.

pink with a white roof was a popular color combo back in 56. black brocade cloth with a white leather surround was basic interior for that exterior color combination.
get a 455 out of a early 70s’ GM and bolt it up to the hydramatic . figure about $20K to make a decent streetable car

Love the mid 50s Caddies. It will take a lot to bring it back. Like the idea of a 455.

I like the way you think Dave, only I’d put a 700R4 or better behind it

What a great opportunity to install an LQ9 with a 4L60 or 4L80! That car would be sweet!
