Three Wheeled Estate: 1965 Bond Minicar

1965 Bond Minicar Mk G Rear Corner

Even though it shares its name with the famous British character James Bond, we doubt he would ever be caught dead in one of these. But that doesn’t mean it’s not still a great car that’s fun to drive. If you’re looking for a great little car to get around town in style, this 1965 Bond can be found on eBay with a current bid of $1,776.

1965 Bond Minicar Mk G Side

This Mark G was one of the last series of Minicars built and has the most features of any of the models. It has doors on both sides of the car, which have working wind up windows and door locks. It even has Semi hydraulic brakes, reverse gear, and 10 inch wheels.

1965 Bond Minicar Mk G Engine

The engine is a single cylinder motorcycle engine and produces about 11 hp. The engine and 4 speed transmissions are mounted to the front wheel, so when the front wheel turns the engine and transmission go with it. This isn’t a lot of power, but this car is very light and is capable of cruising at a top speed of 45 mph and offers an incredible 70 mpg. So it may never make a good get away car, but it could be a great grocery getter.

1965 Bond Minicar Mk G Front Corner

It’s amazing that this design worked. We would think having two wheels upfront would have been a better choice, but it seems to get the job done, as long as you don’t turn to sharply while at speed. The styling isn’t too bad, especially for a car that only has one wheel upfront. This car has been freshened up with new paint, so it looks really clean.

Checkout this video the seller posted of the car in action. It’s amazing that any of these cars and their owners are still alive. Check out that turning radius. This could be a fun driver for someone, we just hope the reserve isn’t set too high…

Not many of these left in operating condition. The Brits loved to use these for their demolition derbies.

that front wheel setup puts me in the mind of an aircraft nose gear. I would have to redo it with a 490yz yamaha engine and then look out. lol

Just found this lovely little site. As an English teenager in the 60s I actually ran one of these. Very cheap to run. I met my wife in 1968 took her home in it.She thought it was a Mini Cooper. When I found employment I bought a Triumph herald. The Bond probably was stripped for its aluminium.
