Too Many Doors: 1957 Chevrolet

left 57

Thirty-five years in a barn don’t appear to have been too unkind to this Chevy listed on craigslist in Chico, CA. The $3,900 seems like it might be reasonable even for a four door. It’s claimed to be mostly rust free except for the floors from the wet carpets and the spare tire well. At least it’s a V8, of course it’s automatic.

This old Chevy looks mostly complete. Perhaps it won’t take much to get back on the road. It would be nice to have a picture of the engine. It looks like the floor pan might just be surface rust. Wouldn’t it make a nice driver pretty much the way it is? Four door cars are said to be coming up in value.

The fact that collectors didn’t want four door cars, they were junked at a whole sale rate. It would not surprise me if there are less of this car in a four door than there are in a two door. This would be a good car to get started in the vintage car hobby. The price of admission is fair too. Why not restore a four door it would be a good candidate for a family guy.

It’s also good car for someone who is probably never going to find an entry-level two-door hardtop.

I can live with the 4 doors, but those Jerganoff wheels go straight into the nearest dumpster.

    Who cares if it’s 2 or 4.

Hey, I’d still love to have it. 4 doors means cheaper!

Black Cali plates….hmmmm….I think they were still yellow w black lettering in ’57. For those of us on the Left Coast that might indicate it came here after it was sold new out of state. Looks like some kid had gotten ahold of it. The knockoff Cragars, the temp and oil gauge beneath the dash, the missing bits….. I had a ’56 4 door hardtop a long time ago……rather a two door but hey…I’d drive the librarians car if I had to!

I have several old 4 door sedans. ’67 LTD, ’67 Galaxie 500, ’67 Custom, and a 4 door hardtop ’66 Mercury Montclair. I have just as much fun with them as I would a 2 door car.
