And now, for something completely different, a convertible pickup truck with a two-person hot tub in the bed. Right, then! As if a nearly perfect example low-mileage one-of-2842 soft-top Dakota Sport convertible isn’t rare and interesting, this one sports a functional spa tub in the bed. The 1989 Dodge Dakota Sport in Waterford, Connecticut promises a crowd anywhere you go. No worries about ho-hum get-togethers because you’re bringing the party with you. Put the four-speed automatic in Park, stash the keys, and let the good times and the bubbles flow. Living the dream will set you back $14,800 according to the listing here on FaceBook Marketplace. Thanks to reader Chuck F. for spotting this red hot party machine.
Picture a rowdy bunch doubling or tripling the capacity of this two-person spa tub and testing the Dakota’s suspension while cranking something like Toby Keith’s Red Solo Cup. Red hot tub truck… I fill you up… Let’s have a party!
The nearly flawless condition of this ride adds class to this party wagon. Anyone could take an $800 Dakota and throw a hot tub in the back, but this one is done right, folks. Running condition escaped the listing, but the V6 and four-speed automatic should be fine for a host of future back yard or front yard adventures after a claimed 40,000 miles. Power windows and air conditioning add creature comforts between venues.
Though not garnering the admiration of earlier “Slant Six,” this similarly sized 3.9L (239 cid) V6 fits nicely in the Dakota’s engine compartment. New for 1987, the 3.9 is essentially a trusty LA 318 minus two cylinders. Like the 318, this Magnum V6 has been called “bulletproof.” This one shows well after an apparently easy life, and nothing visibly disputes the low-mileage claim.
Factory paint on these Dakota trucks often shed its clear-coat from outdoor storage, but this one looks fresh as a newborn baby. The same goes for the blackout trim and bumpers. Even if truck bed hot tubbing is inexplicably not your thing, this is one excellent-looking low-production Dakota Sport. Do you have enough style to own a convertible pickup with a hot tub in the back?
I don’t see why not.
I see why not, why would I want to drive this when I would rather be in the hot tub.
I don’t see why not.
ZZ Top wrote a song called “Ten Foot Pole.” That song came to mind when I saw this truck’s price.
Well NADA gives this thing a high retail value of about $7500 bucks and doesn’t list a hot tub in the options, I like it for the truck the Hot tub not so much to bad market place doesn’t give you the option to watch and see if it sells.
Marketplace has the save option witch is pretty much the same thing.
ZZ Top sang many great songs which can’t be denied as any band who sings about the virtues of “TV dinners” and a “Mexican Blackbird” getting back to this Dakota I think with the added weight of a hot tub it could use that 318 or better yet 5.9 magnum. Just my 2 cents for 15 grand lol
Whoever buys this, regardless of price is going to take a bath.
Crap i am looking for a 3 person hot tub model.
I have owned a couple Dodge trucks, both bought new. One in 1986, for my semi retired Dad to have a Handyman business at mom and dad’s summer home. He owned a beautiful 78 Town Car, he leant me to use, while I made the payments on the truck. That was a 1986 D100 Custom reg cab short bed we put a camper top on. It was light met blue in and out with nice cloth bench seat and door skins, with a little fake wood graining. AM radio power steering and disk brakes, slant six with 3 speed automatic. That ran ok, but got terrible gas mileage, like 16-19! But had little extra passing power. The next was a 2003 Dakota reg cab short bed 4×4, the last year of the 3.9 Magnum, with a 5 speed and 3:55 limited slip rear with HD towing a cooling. That could run rings around the slant six, while getting 16-20 mpg. On one 890 mile round trip, empty going, towing a heavy YouHaul inclosed trailer with 80, 68 lbs knock down picnic tables, 14 in the bed, the rest in the trailer. In total on a Cat Scale? 11,990 lbs CGVW! Just a little over board, but the trailer and truck fairly new. Going out I got 20-21 empty at 65 mph. Returning heavy? 8-10 mph. The long hills in PA on Rt 80 heading east was a little taxing, not being able to pull 5 th gear, without dangerously bogging the engine, never getting too hot, but floored at 1,500 rpm at 50 an dropping was not good. But downshift into 4th and was able to easily recover back to the 65 mph limit, then back off to about a 1/4 throttle over the top, with the ability to pass slower trailer trucks if needed. I’m sure the slant six would have been in second gear screaming to maintain a lower speed!
I too saw this on Facebook marketplace before it got shared here. I only wish it had a video of the hot tub running and working. It would be such a hit and a winning truck at the rad wood car shows!
for party rentals.
Use ski slope side, etc.
Now if I can just get the customers to sign up for adding the hot water (I’ll make an insulated cover 1 ft thick) I can leave’n pick up to clean @ patties’ end.
