Tri-State Drag Champ: 1932 Ford Coupe

Old hot rods never die – or, at least, we try to keep them alive. Someone’s done an admirable job of keeping this awesome ’32 Ford five-window coupe on the road, as this thing is almost too good to be true. A documented drag strip champ in its day, the coupe has seen plenty of success on the Connecticut Dragway and Lebanon Valley Dragway in New York. Find the Ford here on eBay, complete with its trophies, with two bids to $25,100.

It’s no surprise to see the early strong bidding, as cars like this don’t come along every day. The seller notes that the patina is irreplaceable, with details like the tow bar in front and tack-welded shut rumble seat classic drag racer modifications. The Ford’s body is said to be surprisingly solid, with very little rust and the original numbered frame.

The engine is running with many period tweaks still in place, including “three deuces”, juice brakes, headers, and more. The seller notes it is additionally equipped with a 1937 LaSalle transmission and a 1957 Pontiac rear end. The Ford is able to do lot drives, but the carbs are in need of rebuilding. Still, that’s a very minor list of needs for a vintage drag racer.

You have to love details like this, as they don’t come along every day. Trophies documenting the coupe’s prowess on the drag strip are usually lost to crowded basements and yard sales, but have fortunately remained with the car. With its solid body, in-period-modified engine, and minimal body rust, this five-window coupe just oozes charm and swagger.

This isn’t a car, it’s a piece of history. Hopefully whoever buys it respects that. Thanks to the current caretakers for keeping it intact.

If those are headers, what did the original exhaust manifolds look like?

Can we at least put some front fenders and running boards on it. Maybe some correct headlights, I like the colour so a repaint would be in order with black fenders. I’d want some decent seats to sit on too. It would make a nice street rod with a little work. Sorry guys I don’t really care about the race history it’s not like it’s some famous car. Don’t worry guys I’m not buying it but if I did it’s future would be my business. I’d say it’s race days are over and I’d want something that I could use on the street that looked good.

    A way-cool old car. 👍

The fact that it was a drag racer back in the day just makes it that much more cool, IMO.

I’d go for it, if I was closer! I’d keep the patina paint but will freshen up the engine compartment and redo the interior as well as bumpers and running boards and alum side pipes and off to weekend “Car Show” at my SONIC DRIVE IN! Retro heaven! Only in the good old U.S.A.

A high boy too!! Not chopped or channeled what a car with racing prominence makes it worth every penny!!! If I found a two pound gold nugget in my yard tomorrow this would be mine the next day!!!
