Trucks, Imports, and Land Yachts: Montana Collection for Sale

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

There is a massive collection for sale in Montana that has a little bit of something for everyone. Project cars, restored cars, vehicles sitting in fields with no easy to determine if they can be reasonably restored – truly one-stop shopping. The seller has listed a few vehicles here on craigslist but the website behind the brand “Montana Solid Iron” has 50-plus pages of deserving classics and parts rigs for sale. The seller hasn’t provided a ton of details on cars like this sharp black Thunderbird but does note that there are 250 field vehicles up for grabs and 20 that have been previously restored and are in excellent shape.

This is one of my favorites in the “outdoor” section: a 1950 Chevrolet Ranch Wagon with a classic woody body. The forest green paint and wood inserts still make for a handsome combination all these years later with faded paint and missing glass; that said, the seller mentions on the website that he has some of the missing parts that aren’t captured in the photos. The Chevy does have a title, which is an added bonus, but you’ll still have plenty of work to do to bring this admittedly-deserving woody wagon back to life.

This Dodge Power Wagon M37 looks like it just rolled off the battlefield, and while it appears to be largely solid, there’s still broken glass and plenty of surface rust to clean up. But would you bother? If the panels haven’t rotten all the way through, I’d leave it the way it is and just restore the drivetrain and interior; maybe throw on some new off-road tires to give it a bit of a restomod vibe. The seller doesn’t include any details on this one, but my challenge with the M37 trucks is that they take up a ton of space and everything is usually pretty tired on the project-grade examples; however, a restored one with fresh paint is still a sight to behold.

And just so that import guys (yeah, that’s me) don’t feel left out, the seller also has this nicely presented Porsche 914. It’s a 1972 model and the website says quite simply that it “runs good” but that’s all we have to go on. The body looks good with tight shut lines and lustrous black trim. The OEM steel wheels appear to either be in exceptionally good cosmetic condition or recently restored; either way, the 914 presents well, and with an asking price of $15,000, one would hope the interior and drivetrain match the condition of the exterior. Check out the craigslist listing or the full website above and let us know which project ride you’d ship home from Montana.

These situations always baffle me: It appears that the guy has a lot of decent stuff for sale, but……craigslist??

If you put all these cars on CL, and ESPECIALLY FB Marketplace, DUDE, you are gonna spend the rest of you life exchanging dumb dead-end messages dealing with every goofy classic car dreamer/rando in the classic car world. See ya.

You are so correct Rex, looks like a job for Vanderbrink! I like very much the 914 and Jeff I now feel the need to inject that the Chevy “woody” is a tin woody as in the wood is painted onto steel, yet they are still very cool.

I considered buying a 1960 Ranchero from this person in 2020. Description on the site was vague. After receiving detailed photos I determined it had too much rust, barely a parts car and overpriced.

Prices might be okay in a major city, maybe, but factor the cost to haul long distance and I think the majority of this collection will sit many more years.

Geez, this guy has lots of man toys. Especially tractors and loaders. I especially like the International truck and the Mercury convertible and Turnpike cruiser. May be helping an older friend bring his Turnpike back to life. Great find.. but yeah Craigslist?

An auction with no reserve would be the easiest way to move this collection.

A better way is for the seller to be realistic with the asking prices. I get it that he can ask whatever he likes, but c’mon man.

People, this man had a bridge for sale. A FRICKIN BRIDGE FOR SALE. That right there would make me go and see all of his stuff.Other than that, I believe most of his pricing is way to high.

A few years ago I tried to buy a 1936 Chevy truck from this person. I was serious about making a deal. For a number of reasons, including the price, the purchase didn’t happen. I’m wondering if anyone has been able to buy from this site??
