Unbelievable Original!: 1955 Ford Customline Sedan

041116 Barn Finds - 1955 Ford Customline - 3

This is an original, 63,000 mile car that has been in storage for the last sixteen years. What an incredibly nice survivor! This is a 1955 Ford Customline four-door sedan and it’s in almost perfect condition for never having been restored. There is no rust or bodywork on this car and it is wearing all of its factory-applied paint! It’s in Rossville, Indiana but it’s longing to be a part of your collection so don’t wait on this one.

It’s hard to believe that this car is original, what a nice piece of history this is. If this color doesn’t define 1950s America I don’t know what does. I half-expected the seller to have a drive-in tray resting on the driver’s window and maybe a pair of fuzzy.. er.. wait, ok, those are here. But, I guess a little theatrics is ok when you’re working with such a show-stopper as this car is.

This is the first year of the second-generation Ford Customline and it’s a totally new style than the 1954 car was. I believe that this color is Sea Sprite Green and it’s perfect on this car. and is in almost perfect, preserved condition, somehow, after sixty-one years. The Customline was positioned above the Ford Mainline and below the new Ford Fairlane.

The interior looks as nice as the rest of the car does. This is an automatic so no need to shift for yourself here, just put it in D and go. Ford made 471,992 Customline cars in 1955, wow! Even the trunk looks great in this car. I’m guessing that there are seat covers on the seats since there is no mention of them having been reupholstered. I can’t imagine that this gray velvet/velour is the original color or fabric for the seats?

This is Ford’s Y-Block 272 V8 with around 160 hp and 258 ft-lbs of torque. Not a tire-burner by any stretch of the imagination but enough power to get you to where you’re going in style and comfort. The engine looks like it’s brand new under that new, non-stock radiator hose and new radiator cap. I’m guessing that the engine has been repainted, or at the very least the valve covers have been, but I could be wrong.

This fantastic car is listed on eBay with a price of $5,900! That is well within reason for such an original car as this in such great condition. This would be a nice way for someone to get into the collector car market for not a lot of money. Would you keep this car original and just maintain it as needed, or would you add your own custom touches to this car and personalize it a bit?

Wow! The price seems quite reasonable to me, I can’t see it lasting very long. What a neat car!

Neat ’55. Had a Crown Victoria that year back in ’66 ish. Restorers: Is that rear license plate holder supposed to be black? Is the trunk chrome script painted over? Can’t tell. The classic and collectible ’55 Chevy outsold this Ford by only a tiny margin in ’55. The oddball crossover header pipe was the same as on my ’54 239 Y block, but my Crown Vickie had a 312 ‘Bird w/dual exhausts. :-) Terry

The radio delete is out of another car and the trunk has some strange non OEM covering as do the seats. The hubcaps as mentioned above were the first flag. I would call it an average price for the car.

Another less than honest seller, or clueless………………

I’m seeing plenty of things that don’t add up, but what ever.

It is a nice looking old Ford.

I wish people would represent the cars as they are, and not what they are not.

Agreed, think this is a reasonable price for this assuming that the body, chassis and engine are unmolested and acknowledging that some of the pieces don’t match up quite right. Easy and relatively inexpensive entry into the old car hobby and something you could drive without getting heartburn at every stone chip or when it gets dirty.

I agree completely. What’s up with BLUE door panels that the seller clearly tries to hide in his photos for a start?!
I think this has been repainted, was probably blue to start with.

I like it! Price is reasonable although I’d be a little nervous about the possible less than desirable condition of the trunk floor. A covering like this one usually indicates that what’s underneath it isn’t worth showing. If the trunk is good, this car is worth the asking price. I might add that if I got it the only thing I’d be inclined to change would be the hub caps. Proper vintage dog dish caps all the way.

The front chrome trim pieces are missing on the fenders which leads me to believe that it’s been repainted. Nice looking car though.

That’s not Sea Sprite Green, it’s Sky Haze Green. Could very well be original, hard to say from pictures. The door panels are correct, they are not blue. That lower panel always looks a little blu-ish, but those are correct for this color car. Underhood details are a mess, but easily corrected. You guys are awfully quick to call people liars, sheesh.

Correct hubcaps are $100-200 a set depending on how nice you want. The correct full wheel covers are somewhat less.

I’ve owned one just like this for over fifty years.

Beautiful sedan. The color goes with the period for sure. Very impressed how it looks under the hood.

very tempting. i bought a 1956 customline victoria brand new for $1666.00. it was the same color with fender skirt and shaclked 3″ in the rear. wore it our at the drag strip in “b” automatice up until a girl showed up in a 1950 olds rocket 88 and cleaned my clock. i gave up drag racing then and went into stock car racing… those were the gooood old days. i would still like to have a bit of the past just to satisfy my longings. wife wants a new kitchen, so you know where that leave me.

I just found a 55 customline that I want to change the color to Buckskin Brown and Snowshoe white. Where can I find a color schedule for the interior?
I’m interested in getting back to the duplicate of the one I owned in 1955
