Unrestored Classy Sedan: 1930 Buick Model 57

b2

This large and classy Buick Sedan was a one-family car until the current seller purchased it (presumably to flip it). It’s only showing 42k miles, and is said to runs, idle and drive great. It’s had some recent parts added including new tires, a battery, and spark plugs and wires. The fuel pump and carburetor have also been recently rebuilt. There’s a lot of nice “old car look” that I would hate to spoil with a restoration, but at the same time I can’t help but wonder how terrific that radiator cowl would look freshly chromed. If I could buy this one, I think I’d drive it around a lot while I was deciding! It’s located in Green Bay, Wisconsin and is up for sale here on eBay. Wouldn’t you really rather have a Buick?

Nice car! I hate flippers. He probably bought it from a old lady for $1000 and he’s going make a killing on it. Anyway…..I would leave it as original as possible and just drive it.

I can not understand why Buicks of this approximate vintage go for about the same price as a comparable Model A. And they’re way nicer cars in style, features and ride. Nothing like a Packard, mind you, but certainly above a Model A…

Personally that radiator cowl bothers me but if you rechromed it, it would not match the rest of the car and you’d end up rechroming everything else to match and then you’d have to repaint the car. Sigh. Perhaps there’s a way to remove that awful looking radiator paint and polishing up the underlying metal a bit?

Is that a heater core with a filter under the dash?

Nice old Buick, would make a fun parade cruiser. I see that an aftermarket spotlight has been added, not something I would have done to this little gem. “When better cars are built, Buick will build them.”

The radiator shell needs something. I just could not leave it that way.

Either maintain and drive or restore all the way. Would be a beautiful car restored but would have to be a labor of love. Has very elegant lines.

Nice! My grandparents had a 1928 model. This car reminds me some of their car. It will make someone a nice addition to their collection.

That’s a good comment comparing this and a Model “A”. I’d rather have this but it sure needs a lot of TLC to bring it just to decent driver status. As I recall, Buicks were known for good overall engineering that included hydraulic brakes which were a high end car feature. But something really needs to be done about that radiator shell. This has very nice proportions and lines. I wouldn’t be surprised if that body originally had tasteful pinstriping. And that is a heater core under the dash. You turned on the valve and opened the little doors to let the heat out. An essential option back in the day if you lived and drove in Green Bay.
