Unrestored Original? 1967 Pontiac GTO

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Pontiac’s mid-size muscle car, the GTO, was born in 1964 and set the market on its ear. At first, it was an option on the Tempest/LeMans but promoted to full series status in 1966. Demand for cars like this would grow throughout the 1960s and the ‘67 GTO saw an impressive 81,700 copies built. The seller’s “Goat” Is said to be numbers-matching and looks to have been stored indoors for some time. Located in Merced, California, this Pontiac may be an unrestored original and has been listed here on Facebook Marketplace for an optimistic $75,000.

Styling changes from ’66 to ’67 were minimal for the GTO. Its louver-covered taillights were replaced by eight thin taillights, four on each side, and the grille was dolled up. The 389 cubic-inch V8 previously used in these Pontiacs was upgraded to 400 cubes with the most common version using a 4-barrel carburetor that helped the engine produce 335 hp. The seller’s GTO is said to have been driven about 60,000 miles, but we’re not told if it’s in running condition today.

This car appears to be wearing either Gulf Turquoise or Tyrol Blue paint. The sheet metal, chrome, and glass may be fine, but photos of a car of this caliber are better taken outside in the sunlight, not in a dark garage with other stuff surrounding it. The limited interior photos don’t help gauge its condition, either, but the engine compartment looks surprisingly nice. For an unrestored motor, it looks mighty clean and the paint shiny. Hagerty estimated a Concours level ’67 Goat to be worth in the mid-$50,000s, so either there is something special about this car we don’t know about, or the seller abounds with optimism.

$75K and you cant be bothered to, at the least, take the car out of the cramped storage area to get actual pics? Get a life people.

Russ, well put, “The seller abounds with optimism”
Here lately we’ve certainly seen our share of how NOT to properly advertise a car, plus let’s ask an insane amount and see what happens.
It’ll have to get better soon or many of us will have to stop watching our hobby becoming this trainwreck…

    75K? I don’t think so.
And…. Not that it matters but, I don’t know why anyone would have ever bought even one set of those wheels. An aftermarket wheel that looks exactly the same going 50 miles/hr. as they do sitting dead still. What’s the point.

    JMO – Rant over.

The seller is someone who doesn’t want to sell their car.

Sorry to say, seller is suffering from a condition called Valley Fever thinking that he’ll get $75 g here. Weather it’s 100% original or a 100 point car, it seems that something ain’t right here

I think this is funny! he knows he will never get it, why not try, almost as funny as the judge thats for sale. I have a friend that had three GTO’s parked next to his house, some guy kept bothering him to buy them but didn’t want to pay squat for them so he finally said OK come and get them, when he got there the owner had already crushed them with a bulldozer! now thats funny!

Very unrealistic asking price, as you could buy a concours quality goat for less money. The down side to this car is the automatic trans. and the only good in that is the his and hers shifter. Being a sport coupe and not a hardtop is another deal breaker for most buyers. The good with this is a CA car most likely total rust free and still wears its original Black plates it was born with.
More realistic price at hi end would be $35k IMO. Good luck to the seller.

Wrong air cleaner (68), wrong carb and fuel line, cheap parts store master cylinder. One of the alternator support straps missing. Vacuum line from carb missing tee into intake manifold. This is just from the one engine photo.

Honestly I could take that car and with a weekend of cleaning make it look a whole lot better. I also have correct parts to fix those issues.

Lots of negative comments here…..well deserved. But this is an interesting car, if restored properly. Offer the guy market value. Who knows, he just might take it.

My research finds that there were only 7,029 2dr post (sport coupe) GTO made in ’67. Always the lowest numbers and rarest in the GTO lineup. My ’65 (phs documented) is a sport coupe and one of only 8,319 made.
