No Reserve: 1974 Buick Estate Wagon

There’s dry, and then there’s West Texas dry. That’s according to the seller of this no-reserve 1974 Buick Estate Wagon here on eBay. From the description in the listing, he brought this long, wide wagon with him when he retired and re-located to Missouri. Unfortunately, even with the luxury of retirement, he’s not going to have the time to bring this one back so it’s up for grabs with bidding currently at $2,325 and just over three days left on the auction.

Pictures aren’t great so we’ll have to use our imagination. From what I can see, the body looks arrow straight and rust free. This is likely the best photo we’ll see of the interior, which reveals unripped seat backs but it’s impossible to say what condition the seat cushions are in. These were heavy machines, weighing in at upwards of 5,400 pounds before you added the full complement of kids, dogs and all associated gear for family vacations.

Up front, the venerable Buck 455 V8 did hauling duty. At 7.5L of displacement, these engines certainly consumed some real estate north of the firewall. Though 1974 was the last year that Buick offered its desirable Stage 1 performance package, the seller does not reveal if this car was equipped with the upgraded powertrain. All Estate Wagons received the trick rear tailgate, which split apart to fold into the roof and the floor, providing unfettered access to the rear cargo area.

That’s it for photos, aside from this shot of the seller’s clean title in hand. I’d love to see the condition of the interior, but truthfully, it’s the outside that does it for me. The later Estate Wagons that emerged from the late 70s to early 90s were huge disappointments styling-wise, in my opinion, compared to the earlier generations. The seller notes that while the A/C system will need a dose of freon, the engine does not smoke and it’s just a set of fresh tires and new battery away from cruising down the road. What do you think is a fair final price?

I think it will make it to around $3500.00 but that, sadly, will be the top of the bidding IMO. I hope I’m wrong. I also hope a derby driver doesn’t get it. They’re all too eager to destroy these big battleships.

It would look cool taking the kids to school.
Maybe show up at the family reunion.

I’ve bought “arrow straight and rust free” cars based on pictures before. It doesn’t work out

The title shows Sonora. Is that where it is now?
