White Hot: 1963 Buick Skylark Convertible

This white-hot little 1963 Buick Skylark Convertible is in Vancouver, Washington with an asking price of $6,000. That seems like a good deal to me if it checks out.

So far so good, the body looks great. The seller mentions that the fenders are straight but that there’s a dent in the rear bumper. Other than that I don’t see anything wrong with the exterior. The photos are small and they were taken from quite a distance away, for some odd reason, so it’s hard to really tell.

This car has 88,699 miles on it; that’s pretty precise. What isn’t original on this Skylark is the new convertible top, new starter, and new battery.

You’ll need $150 for some new carpet and a a couple of times that amount for some Dynamat to put under that new carpet. The seats had to have been reupholstered, they look brand new. You’ll need to source some door panels unless the seller has them stashed somewhere.

This is as close as it gets to an engine photo on this car; or check out the first photo again for a 3/4 view. This should be Buick’s Fireball, aluminum 215 V8 with 200 hp if all is original here, which I’m guessing that it is. For a 2,800 pound car that’s a nice amount of pedal boost. This is what it should look like in that black hole of a photo. Given that nice examples go for about $9,000-$15,000, there might be some wiggle room on the price since there is some work to do. This sweet car is listed on Collector Car Ads. I like the size of these Skylarks and I can’t complain about either the horsepower or the price. Do you like this white-hot Skylark as much as I do?

Cool find. Stock wheels, good sign….I’d be looking at the exhaust a little closer…it’s not factory. It did not exit at the quarters/aft wheel, but at the rear bumper at a slight angle. That’s not a deal breaker though. $5,500 and plan on spending another $1500 ensuring that it starts, goes and stops with decent rubber, without loosing sleep. I could put a vert skin on it for $600 and the rest would go to mechanical.

Love this one Scotty, thanks for finding it. The early 60s GM B-O-P compacts were really fun little cars with a fair amount of engineering innovation, they get good gas mileage and are easy to work on. Aside from the rust bug, which they attracted as much as any other cars of their era, they are really good cars. I can never decide which one I like better, but the 62-63 Olds F-85 Jetfire with the turbo is probably my favorite of these cars, but this Buick is very sweet indeed,.

This one brings back a memory.. A couple of us guys rented one on a two day weekend at Ft Bragg in 1966.. Get this, $9.95 and 3 cents a mile for the whole weekend and we went everywhere we could to explore Fayetville.. Those were the days..
    Nice find…. Great car..

Love this but not as much as the original and yes, the first Old’s F85 w was the prize winner. Just comparing this one with the earlier V8 model featured here earlier the red original 1st year model looked very nice and SMALLER, yes? I know all these cars got better technically in later iterations but I’m thinking with some tweeks to suspension and such, more air to and more carb’s and headers with dual exhausts. Now we’re talking something sporty. And it’s red.

~ So familiar ! I’ve owned three ’63 convertibles, a ’63 Skylark hardtop, & a ’63 Special convertible. I’d give $6,000 to have any one of them back in the stable !
