Who is looking for a black T-Top Pontiac Trans Am that is being stored in a horse stall in Athol, Massachusetts? This 1979 Trans Am is listed for sale here on eBay with 2 days remaining in the auction. The seller says that all the parts should be there. The car is not running but has its original rebuilt engine sitting under the hood. The car has received 16 bids so far and the price is up to $4,750. This (1979) was the last year for the large displacement Oldsmobile 403 cubic inch V8 engine and the Pontiac 400 cubic inch V8 engine in the Trans Am. It was also the first year that the 301 cubic inch V8 engine was available in the Trans Am.

As stated, the engine is said to have been rebuilt and placed in the engine bay. However, it is not hooked up and will need a wiring harness, distributor, and wires. The cooling system and fan shroud also appear to be missing. This Trans Am has the base engine for 1979 which was the L80 403 cubic inch V8 engine that was rated at 185 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. It was only available with an automatic transmission but the Oldsmobile engine made it a smooth-running car. This engine was mated with highway gears in the rear end. If an owner upgrades the rear gearing to a 3:42 or 3:23 rear end, the car is a lot more fun to drive around town. The top-performing engine option was the W72 Pontiac 400 cubic inch V8 engine. This engine was rated at 220 horsepower and was only available with a 4-speed manual transmission. For a $50 credit, a buyer could opt for the L37 Pontiac 301 cubic inch V8 engine that was rated at only 155 horsepower. The L37 engine was available with either an automatic or 4-speed manual transmission.

This is the only picture of the interior of the car which, as you can see, is being used for storage with T-Tops, parts, and a wheel/tire in the passenger seat. It also gives you a glimpse of the wheels. They appear to be aluminum Z-28 wheels off a Camaro. This car is going to need a lot of work to get it on the road. The steering wheel is either faded or has a cover on it. It appears that the vinyl dash may need refinishing. Hopefully, the T-Tops are not scratched.

There are no good side shots of this car since it appears to be wedged in this old horsebard with blocks behind the wheels. The car sports a 1981 bird on the rear fuel filler which is a popular modification to 1979 and 1980 Trans Ams. The seller says the car is rust-free but the undercarriage pictures show some rust on the frame. For the right price, this could be a good project.
