This is a pretty normal, numbers matching 1966 Chevrolet Corvette convertible. With a VIN listed and clear title, the buy it now price sits at $25,000. The car is located in Cary, Illinois and an odometer picture is shown, but it is hard to tell what the mileage is. You can find more info on the eBay listing.
This car is a running driving Corvette, with a 327 cubic inch V8 under the hood. It is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. While it does move, it might be hard to get it to stop. The listing mentions that the brakes need work. There have been some modifications to the body of the car as you can see in the photos and it was supposedly track raced in the 70s.
The interior is in decent condition, considering other Corvettes that have been featured on this site, or that I have written about. There is carpet in the trunk space, carpet in the footwells, and there doesn’t seem to be any mold. The car does come with a removable hard top along with the attached soft top. It also comes with a hood even though it is not on the car.
One thing the listing notes is that the frame does have some rust spots. It does mention that they are repairable though. While there is a lot of work to be done to this car, it is not the worst Corvette that has been featured or sold. It is always a pleasure to read the comments and see the back and forth of what is or is not worth it. It will be fun to see what you all think of this one.
So many modifications to this car, it would take a tremendous effort to return it to a stock body appearance. That doesn’t even consider the mechanical changes it has likely been through.
If someone wants to do a restomod project, an ok place to start I guess. Frame rust mentioned is certainly a major concern!
I would not be concerned about the frame, as a welder fabricator fixing things like frames is no big deal to me If the frame was made of wood and it has a rotten spot your pretty well hooped. But steel is another matter all you need to do is cut back to good metal fit in a new piece of steel and weld it in. It’s like when you cut a 2×4 to short your also hooped with steel not so. So back to the car personally I’ve never been a big fan of these side pipes and if this were mine it would be the first to go. These verts aren’t my favorite vettes I’d much rather have the coupe. This particular car looks like it was ridden hard and put away wet and I have a feeling it needs a ton of work, best of luck to the new owner.
Would be a cool car to bring back to its cheesy 70’s flared/sidepiped glory. There’s enough restored SBC C2 convertibles around (not that there’s anything wrong with that).. A fun 70’s period driver quality restoration would be cool in my books.
Hammer down! Sold that quickly. There was enough there to make the new owner move forward with this project…
Maybe. Says lister ended it because of an error in the listing. Might have sold it back channel, or it could pop up again.
That’s what ppl say when they get an offer they can’t refuse on eBay, eBay want’s their 5-10% !
Love that spinner on the steering wheel!
Pretty sure hood Is for big block and description states 327.
Bottom line, if you have limited funds and love the C2 body style this could make sense for you.
From the description, would not take a lot of money to make this a daily driver.
I’ve seen this type of modified Vette before on the road in the past.
I’m not sure what everybody was thinking when they did this, but somebodys error in judgement, could be somebody’s opportunity to be a Corvette owner perhaps for the first time.
Its a chevy get it running and drive it ! Mark is right frames metal weld it ! Those cars are so easy to replace panels on, a resto isn’t a million . Its just another vette.
