Wrecked Exotic: 1975 Ferrari 308 GT4

Another entry from our favorite California wrecking yard full of forgotten exotics: this time, it’s a 1975 Ferrari 308 GT4 coupe that was totaled in 1990. The Ferrari shows just 23,838 miles, which is likely original given how most Ferraris sport weekend-only mileage. This example will need extensive reconstruction given it looks like the nose took a fairly hard hit. Find it here on eBay with a $19,500 asking price and the option to submit a best offer.

The 308 isn’t the most desirable vintage Ferrari – most folks would place it in the same category as the Mondial – but they’ve regained some favor as a cheap mid-engined sports car that still emits an exotic howl when running well. The 308 was a true 2+2 with bucket-style seating in the rear for very small friends, but who arguably had the best seat in the house with a quad-cam V8 right behind their heads.

This example has all the typical hallmarks of cars offered by this seller, which includes long periods of outdoor exposure and completely torched interiors. My eyes may deceive me, but it looks like the front hit was hard enough to move the firewall inwards a little bit – does anyone agree? The dash is tweaked on both ends and the cabin shot indicates the impact pushed into the cabin somewhat.

This gives you a truer sense of how compromised the chassis is as a result of the hit. Still, to this seller’s credit, they aren’t hiding anything with their arsenal of wrecked exotics, and are at least giving these now-classic sports cars a shot at either living on or helping a better car return to the roads. Do you think this 308 GT4 is purely a parts car, or does it have a shot at revival?

Of course all cars can be revived. It’s weather it not it lands in the hands of someone that has the desire and means to do so. This needs a new chassis… Or a fabricator skilled enough to build the front half. Of course it needs new sheet metal up front but there again there is skill out there that can fix these parts. And it keeps it all original. Yes this car can come back and if it lands in the right hands it will.

with a new frame and front sheet metal and the absolutely everything else it needs, it can be revived but it will never be all original.

Underside looks like the race car we wrecked in 2017. Bent everything clear back to the taillights. This one is going to take some work.. and money. Rare enough now to try and save.

I love the Gotti wheels, which also happen to be one of the few salvageable items left here.

Twist and shout!!! This is the second ride this week that was wrecked in the front end!!! I’ve never been fortunate enough to own a Ferrari so my question is can you get these parts from Ferrari or possibly an aftermarket company??? Like someone said previous to my post anything can be fixed but it definitely makes that job easier when the parts are available or reproduced!!!

I saw one for sale that had 13k miles, a rebuilt engine, respray and more for 70k…I don’t think that you could make this one as nice for 50k plus the purchase price.

I don’t believe the 23,000 mile claim. Why would a car of the style sit in a bone yard long enough to look like this. There is MUCH more to the story.

Parts availability for Ferrari’s from these companies
    Eurospares
    Ferrari parts exchange
    DTM
    DK engineering
    algar ferrari
as well as a lot of others, but do not expect the parts to be mustang cheap.

This one is a parts car with a value in the 10-13k range. Ferrari 308 prices have dropped significantly lately. They are starting to flatten out but you can find a drive gt4 for 35 to 40k now

This one I would say is a parts car

One owner, low mileage beauty. Driven only to church on Sunday’s, except for one last ride on Mulholland Drive.
Older Pasadena lady owned and cared for.
    Call now.

GRRR… like the license plate on the wrecked GTO previewed yesterday-is all I have to say. With all the “cleanup” taking place by the questionable State of California govt.(electric cars for everyone!)-you would think this place is the first on their list.

HiHo HiHo it’s off to the junkyard ! Wait it’s there already. It would take a canoe load of hundreds to put this together.

If totaled in 1990, why wait til 2019 to sell it, after been outside and sunburned and rained in. All cars he has are rusty. Why not sell right away.

Hawk HF Stratos replica for the drivetrain is the only thing I can see for this.

It’s difficult to imagine the amount of money that could be poured into a project like this. But it could be good practice for a slightly larger task, like raising and repairing the Titanic. The simplest plan would include obtaining a complete parts list for the car and the ordering two of everything. Some assembly would be required. Or you could just buy a small third-world country. By comparison, It makes achieving peace in Middle East seem doable. But when it’s done, it would still need paint. Plan on being busy for a good long while.

Pull the V8 and plop it in a duece coupe or roadster. Or maybe a Cobra replica! It’s definitely worth the $ just to part out. It’s still a Ferrari.

Wonder if the engine would fit in a Fiero or MR2 or X 19?

I had a short lived and misguided foray into Italian motorcycles. Hopefully Ferrari parts here are abundant. I can’t begin to describe how big of a nightmare it was to find and purchase parts from Italy. Potential purchasers, be very, I mean VERY careful. On second thought….RUN!!

Didn’t Mike Brewer pick one of these up in running condition with a small dent on the corner for about $30k?
This is WAY over priced even allowing for a few years growth on value.
