1 of 3008! 1965 Mercury Park Lane Convertible

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Would it be odd to advertise a car with a picture of it just having fallen off a trailer? Strange presentation or not, this barn-kept behemoth makes one interesting find. Mercury only produced 3008 Park Lane convertibles in 1965, and this one, listed here on Minneapolis, Minnesota craigslist, can be yours for a mere $1500. Thanks to our own Adam C. for suggesting we feature this gentle green giant.

Despite being parked “for decades,” the full-sized drop-top shows mostly solid metal. The seller reports that the interior suffered animal abuse, and Minnesota is hardly the Nirvana of Well-Preserved Old Cars, but the convertible top (new just before the car’s long slumber) may be salvageable.

The lower regions of this quarter panel will need some metal-fab, but check out the size of that trunk. Install a net and it’s table-tennis time! Trunks of this magnitude make your top-heavy SUV seem unnecessary. There’s plenty of room in there for your luggage, some tools, a full sized spare tire, and that punk who won’t take “Stay away from my Daughter” for an answer.

The shiny bits up front look tidy. Beneath the dusty hood, one of four 390 cid engines rests. Sadly it’s not the 425 HP “Super 427.” Considering the rust and trashed interior, would you let this formerly high-end Mercury give up its parts, or should this low-production beauty be saved? At $1500, how can you go wrong?

Wow, some people just shouldn’t be around heavy equipment. Didn’t help the underside perched like that. And they wonder why people get hurt. Trunk doesn’t line up well, possibly from falling off the trailer? Nice car, but probably fried underneath, and that’s not good with a convertible.

I did get a kick out if the ad. Now I am thinking, hold my beer and watch me load this. I wonder if they used those car ramps for the trailer? The new ragtop before being parked is a mystery to me. In a way i wish I was there to see what really unfolded.

This one could be a lot of fun just as it looks.

Seems like our young friend here is clearly not playimg with a full deck
here. If you want to inspect the
underside of a vehicle, PUT THE
DAMNED THING ON A LIFT and
then look all you want! All I can
see here is this guy gettin’ his
    gourd crushed should that car
    roll backward off the trailer.
    Other than the dumbass lying
under the car, the lack of pics
of the engine and the inteterior
tells me to run the other way!.
    Too many unknowns here to
    suit me. Someone will hopefully
buy and restore this car but not me–
    I’ve got a date with a 2000 Ford
    Taurus wagon.

Sorry; the photo tells me more than I wanted to know. And he was dumb enough to photograph the damned thing kattywompas off the trailer? Looks like Otis & Zeke have another mess on their hands!
I don’t even want to know what got ruined when it slid off the trailer. He’d probably tell you ‘it was like that when we found it!’

Apparently no human injury involved so BF adds humor to the morning…..

It IS possible that the car was LOADED properly onto the trailer, but not properly SECURED once it was up there. Once the started driving …
Dimbulb 1: OH DAMN .. I thought YOU tied it down.
Dimbulb 2: No, I thought YOU tied it down
However it played out, it was a scary time for that lovely old Merc.

Trailer idiocy and lack of pictures aside…I lean towards worth-a-restomod.

How do you know he’s not trying to push it back on the trailer?

Has anyone bothered to even look at the “trailer?”
It’s an antique wooden trailer with about five boards missing from it. That Merc never had a chance.
    Pretty car. :(

Nawwwwww…. the missing boards are for access to the drive train for servicing… like the aforementioned
      oil pan’s drain plug.
