Low-mileage fourth-generation Camaros are getting harder to find, especially when they’ve been preserved by a single owner since new. This 1996 Chevrolet Camaro Z28SS, now listed on eBay, stands out as an especially clean example with just 12,500 original miles and one-owner history. Thanks for the tip, Curvette!

Finished in red and carrying a clean title, this Camaro represents a significant chapter in the model’s performance history. The 1996 model year marked the return of the SS badge to the Camaro lineup for the first time since 1972. These cars were created through a collaboration between General Motors and SLP Engineering, transforming the standard Z28 into a more performance-focused version.

Under the hood sits the 5.7-liter V8 paired with an automatic transmission, sending power to the rear wheels. This particular example is identified as SS badge number 1530 and includes several SLP performance upgrades that helped define the Z28SS program.
Among those components is the SLP Performance TOTL exhaust system, designed to enhance both performance and sound. The car also features a Torsen torque-sensing rear differential, which helps improve traction by distributing power between the rear wheels as needed. Suspension upgrades are also part of the package, with the optional Level II Bilstein suspension system included.

The car is also accompanied by several items that collectors often look for when evaluating a special model. According to the listing, it comes with Z28SS SLP floor mats, books, the original owner warranty booklet, and the SS supplement book. The seller also notes that the one-year-only floor mats for the 1996 model are included.

The seller describes the car as having been cherished since new and properly stored throughout its life. With only 12,500 miles showing on the odometer, it represents an opportunity to acquire a preserved example of the revived SS Camaro.
The fourth-generation Camaro has seen renewed interest in recent years, and limited-production models like the Z28SS have become especially appealing to collectors looking for modern-era performance cars with documented history.

With its low mileage, one-owner background, and SLP performance components, this Camaro Z28SS offers a snapshot of 1990s American performance culture.

Would you keep this 12,500-mile Z28SS as a collector piece, or take it out regularly to enjoy that revived SS heritage?

Awesome cars.
Nice car. There is probably a limited upside, the money will eventually follow the LS1 manual transmission 4th generation F-body’s, the SLP versions will lead the way.

While I am not a big Camaro fan, I would love to have this in my garage
fourth-gen F-bodies handle like a dream. with the engine sitting behind the front wheels (and halfway under the dash), weigh distribution is lovely and you can feel it when cutting through turns, which makes these outstanding track cars and back road cruisers — even if they are quite a bear to work on due to lack of space under the hood. the only drawbacks are that legendary GM interior quality (cheap plastic, and cheap-looking, though mildly better if you upgraded to the faux leather interior over the cloth) and a weight over 3200 lbs. Unfortunately, most weight-reduction efforts, like pulling the rear seats, impact the back of the car, rather than the front where it is needed (except, notably, pulling the A/C).
