16,900 Original Miles: 1990 Chevrolet Camaro

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The third-generation Chevrolet Camaro is a collector’s item that continues to appreciate, especially when it’s found in virgin form. While we all like to find the rare spec – like the 1LE – there’s nothing wrong with a survivor-grade example like this, which is said to have just 16,900 original miles. The seller doesn’t provide much in the way of details and the cosmetic condition isn’t terrific but it’s clear that the Camaro has never been messed with. The color combo is pretty great, too. The Camaro is listed here on craigslist in New Orleans with an asking price of $25,995.

The third-generation Camaro is a terrific platform for an entry-level project. It’s not obscenely quick but it makes good power, and aftermarket support is quite extensive should you want to look for more horsepower. The seller doesn’t specify what engine this Camaro is equipped with, but not seeing the Z28 or IROC logos tells me this could be a base model equipped with the six-cylinder engine. If that’s the case, the asking price becomes more of a challenge, as even a pristine six-cylinder car will struggle to see this kind of money. Regardless, the color this one wears is a nice change of pace from the usual reds and blacks.

So, here’s what I mean about the cosmetics: for a low mileage car, this isn’t pristine by any means. The detailing could be far better on this car, especially if it’s being presented as a survivor with under 30,000 miles. I get that every long-stored car isn’t kept on a pedestal and wiped clean with a terry cloth every morning, but this one would likely present way better with a proper interior cleaning and paint correction. The larger photos just show some stains on the carpeting and the seats, which I’d have remedied before I present the car. The center console appears to be in good shape and the factory radio remains installed.

Door panels look good too, and the crank windows further establish that this is likely a base model. The side of the door appears to show the original stickers still in place, which hopefully indicates it wasn’t previously repainted. The seller mentions that the gas tank needs to be drained before attempting to start it, which tells you there’s likely more work to be done than simply emptying the tank and firing it up. I love a low-mileage example of a car that’s historically found with greater than 40,000 miles on the clock, but this one needs some further attention to detail before it’s going to sell with a near $30,000 price tag.

This car is not in “great condition” unless you can see the underside of the car.
If it’s got the 6 cylinder engine maximum price in it’s present condition is at least 10K less than the asking price. Seller says will accept offers but don’t contact him/her with any. Sorry, these are pretty cars but there seems to be a lot of fish in New Orleans, and don’t forget the city is below sea level.

Base, 6 banger auto, even with the low mileage, in today’s prices 10K tops……

Not sure if air bag rubber & propellant is still good on cars this old, regardless of mileage & storage conditions. & if replacement parts are avail for this driver’s side only bag. & if not, should it be disabled or even removed.

I’m concerned about my ’91 daily driver if the driver’s only air bag is:
        1. going to deploy w/o warning & get me into a serious accident or even kill me
        2. still going to deploy during an accident
        3. & if it deploys when it’s supposed to, will it still protect me, or injure me from broken/dried out/loose/aged pieces flying all over the place – including into my eyes
No one i asked has answers.

Seller could have been bothered to clean the car up before asking $18-20k more than the car is reasonably worth.

Crank windows, no defroster means this is a one-option car (automatic trans) with a 3.1 V6 motor. I know the LO3 5.0 was a standalone option, but I never saw an otherwise stripped car with one. This is probably as undesirable as you can get, even for the 3rd-gen enthusiast like me.

On one hand, the asking price on this car is offensive, but on the other, as the owner of a pair of highly optioned L98-powered 3rd-gens, this makes thing about selling one now.

Maybe there is a different currency system and different eyeglasses used in NOLA? I see a $6000.00 Camaro.

Getting ready to list my pristine 60k mile ’87 Trans Am GTA here…Was going to ask $18k but after seeing this listing, maybe I should ask $50k!

so do I, if there’s $3000 in the glove box. This thing’s not even a runner.

The stains and wear belie a car with “only” 17k miles. And the seller isn’t making much of an effort to sell it anyway.

I would not accept this as a 17,000-mile car without documentation. It seems a bit too dirty and discolored inside for that mileage. As for the price, you’d struggle to get that much money for a 1st generation Camaro with a 6.

Sorry but no. I can smell this thing from 200 miles away. 4K maybe? Most folks I know from that area are friggin’ nuts. YMMV.

Why has no one mentioned the front end damage to this car?

25,000 somolians? Back in the day (2019), you could get a mint condition 1LE for this. I’d pay 8k but I’m stuck in the past (2019).
