The ’86 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser was the last V8-powered Oldsmobile in their lineup. Its big wagon body requires a little more power than its poor petite V6-powered cousin. These wagons were designed with style and luxury in mind and nodded a bit to ’70s aesthetics and sensibility with their interior. This Custom Cruiser has just 18k miles and is listed for auction on eBay. The bidding ends Thursday, November 5th.
This Custom Cruiser is finished in Garnet Red Metallic. The exterior appears to be in great condition considering the age of the car. Some light paint damage could be possible but none is shown. The car’s factory wheels are in good condition as well and have a very ’80s look to them. Nearly no work is needed on this Oldsmobile’s exterior. The car recently received new tires and a general tune-up.
The Oldsmobile’s interior is a gorgeous color-matching red vinyl that is consistent throughout. The Interior is in excellent condition and is equipped with air conditioning, manual windows, power locks, and a power rear window. The seller notes that everything works inside and the interior needs no attention. The next owner of this Custom Cruiser will be transported back to the ’80s every time they get behind the wheel.
A 5.0 liter Rocket V8 engine sends power to the rear wheels via an automatic transmission. The engine appears to need a little detail but is said to work great. The hood liner could use a replacement and has some decay present. Overall this car is a great option for someone who wants to drive in ’80s luxury. The car is very roomy and could act as a fun vehicle to take the kids to school or as a cool grocery-getter. If you want to add the 1986 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser to your collection bid on eBay before the auction ends Thursday.
I’m pretty sure the corporate Oldsmobile engine was long gone before this car was built. Just a regular GM Chevrolet engine in this one. Still a very nice longroof.
Looking at the oil fill cap location its a 307 olds engine, not a Chevy.
Olds 307’
Actually GM corporate used the Olds 307 with a THM 200R4 trans in these. I had one in my 82 Electra. With the tall rear gears you weren’t winning any drag races but you could easily get over 20 MPG with it of you were easy on the throttle.
I think Barnfinds is the first place I’ve heard it reffered to as the “Rocket 5.0” lol. Unfortunately I think Oldsmobile stopped using that arpind 1976 if you look at the air cleaners it just says Oldsmobile 455 or 350. That being said, this is a fantastic find and a great write up thank you for putting this on here. I dont remember many Olds wagons trimmed with Vinyl, always crushed velour or cloth. And the condition, including the easily faded carpets is fantastic. I have a feeling the mileage may very well be legit on this one. These are great comfortable nice driving cars.
Once again thabks for posting this, I’d keep it original right down to the basic Olds wheel covers.

Driveinstile.. The good Dr Olds, was prolific w the term “rocket” 🚀 lol.
I like the look of these caps on this car better than the optional fancy wire caps.
I like these hupcaps too and there easier to clean! I agree with Wademo
Looks like mice ate the hood liner. Nice looker but watch out.
Nice write -up Sara.
Don’t you wish people would take pics in the sun rather than the shade. Makes you wonder if they are hiding something.
Just a thought to help us figure out if we are really interested. Please include where the car is located and current bid if you could. That would help.
I think I would really rather have a Buick.
I’m hoping the bidding ends tomorrow.. and not last month. Nice looking ride..GLWTS
Nice looking Custom Cruiser. Was the only surviving B-body at Olds and Buick by this time. I too find the absence of cloth and power conveniences to be curious in this level of car but some customers and dealers did it that way. The power lock switch would have been on the top surface of the front door armrest.
It is a 307 4 Barrel Olds engine for sure!!
