Finding a well-preserved classic with an extraordinarily low odometer reading that is also affordable is challenging, but this 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS proves that it isn’t impossible. It has a genuine 18,000 miles showing on its odometer and presents superbly. It has led a sheltered life, and apart from needing new tires due to their age, it is a turnkey proposition. The seller has listed the Monte Carlo here on Craigslist in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Rocco B. for spotting a classic that could be yours for $8,500.
There is no denying that the Monte Carlo suffered a sales slump in the 1980s, with figures falling far below the badge’s previous lofty heights. The Fifth Generation version, released for the 1995 model year, went some way towards addressing the slide. Our feature car rolled off the line in 1999, a year when the Monte Carlo achieved 69,779 sales. The first owner ordered it in Arctic White, with the listing suggesting it is an original survivor. It carries the hallmarks of a car treated respectfully, with the paint and panels free from significant flaws and defects. A close inspection will undoubtedly reveal minor chips, but first impressions are positive. Rust doesn’t appear to be a concern for the new owner, while the trim and glass are excellent. The Monte Carlo’s wheel covers are prone to damage from curb strike, but the ones on this car are in as-new condition.
We’ve seen a recently emerging trend at Barn Finds where a seller will list a classic, but fail to supply any engine photos. This Monte Carlo is no exception, although the original Window Sticker confirms that it features a 3.1-liter V6, a four-speed automatic transmission, and power-assisted steering and anti-lock brakes. The V6 produces 160hp and 185 ft/lbs of torque, and although that doesn’t make it a jet when the topic turns to outright acceleration, aerodynamic efficiency allows it to hit 129mph. It is also worth noting that achieving fuel consumption figures better than 25mpg on the open road is pretty easy, making this the perfect weapon for cross-country adventures. The seller claims that this survivor has a genuine 18,000 miles on its odometer without mentioning supporting evidence. However, it comes with a significant collection of original documentation, which may include the paperwork confirming the mileage claim. They state that it needs new tires due to age, but that potential buyers should consider this a turnkey proposition.
The seller may not mention verifying evidence for the mileage claim, but this Monte Carlo’s interior makes a compelling argument for the authenticity. Finding anything to criticize is virtually impossible, with the carpet still wearing its factory-protective plastic. The Gray cloth trim looks faultless, the dash is free from obvious problems, and it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the Monte Carlo wouldn’t look out of place in a Chevrolet showroom. It doesn’t merely look good, because there are plenty of features to attract potential buyers. These include dual airbags, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, cruise control, a tilt wheel, and an AM/FM radio/cassette player.
This 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS isn’t the most desirable car on the planet, but it is a simple fact that any vehicle that presents this nicely after a quarter of a century is guaranteed to turn heads. Bolting on new tires is all that is required before the new owner hits the road for classic motoring that will be extremely comfortable and relaxing. The seller’s price is above the market average by a considerable amount, but I won’t be surprised if they find a buyer. Will you?
A two door Chevy Lumina with Monte Carlo badging slapped on it. Hard pass for $8,500 no matter how low the miles are.
LS stands for luxury sport. And this white coupe motors up to an impressive 129mph according to Clarkeys writeup wow. How the heck does it go that fast
These were an insult to the Monte Carlo name!!!
I had a lumina z34 Till this day out of all my cars This was the best handling and riding car.. Loved it but, had to trade it in after 4 months a lot of electrical issues.. Wednesday build car…..
Wow! I remembered these, but forgot about the base LS trim. A bench and a column shift – this has to be rare.
Dale Earnhardt, man,,who I still say wasn’t killed and wanted out of the limelight. Reports of him working in a Taco Bell in Charlotte have surfaced,,,he had an amazing season with a ’99 Monte Carlo, with 21 top 10s, 7 in the top 5, and won 3 races, when competition was incredibly tough. While I prattle on about the King, we simply can’t forget what a great driver that guy was. His son,,,not so much.
I heard Elvis visits that Taco Bell.
Five will get you ten the Monte he raced with had something more than an under-powered V6 under the hood. And it was a Wendy’s.
Ahem… Richard is the King
Another commenter hit the nail on the head. This is just a plain-Jane under-powered 2-door Chevy Lumina, albeit well-preserved. And a dealer is selling this, so no doubt it’s worth every penny (sarc.)
Like it for $4,000. Care for it and use as a daily driver. The wheel covers are reminiscent of MB bundts, IMHO…new tires, bundt style rims. Too bad a 3800 v6 wasn’t the standard engine.
Not my favorite Monte Carlo and not an improvement over the Lumina 2-door. At least it doesn’t have those horrible Intimidator headlights. Just a well preserved and pleasant car.
If “meh” were a car, it would look like this. Mediocrity, no matter how well-preserved, is still mediocrity.
Jelly bean!
Cash usually talks I bet you can get it for less it’s not a bad car for the money and it doesn’t have all that garbage that’s on cars today. I would consider it but I haven’t had a dependable Chevy product since my 77 Nova
Wish I could buy a new Chevy coupe.
Um, “classic”???
Hi guys. Retired car guy here. Just a different way of thinking. Go to a new car dealer used car lot. Try to find a nicer car for 8500 bucks. For that kind of money your looking at a decent 100k 15 year old 4cyl fill in the blank eco box. This a great second car or collage kid car ect. Give me the ugly Monte over a uglier Kia soul!!
IF you’re looking for a “G” chassis coupe,’ you could do better; much better. While the 3100 V6 variant is passable, it’s plagued by GM specified Dex-Cool anti-freeze to a higher degree than the 3800 series V6.
Why not pick up a 3400 Twin Dual Cam variant or if you’re looking for something with better HP and Torque, a 3800 Series II V-6 powered variant routinely achieves 300k miles, while achieving around 30 MPG and the Supercharged 3800 Series II makes 240 HP, typically losing about 2 mpg (due to very short intake manifold runners). Dex-cool eventually takes out the intake gaskets on the 3800s as well, but it seems to do it less frequently than the 3100 or 3400.
There is nothing remotely sporty about this car even with the iconic Monte Carlo name. It was the malaise era, and even with low miles it’s not much more than a vintage grocery getter.
Still, might be worth taking it to car shows and let folks admire its 90’s look. Kudos to whoever preserved this 90’s two door sedan.
Is this one of those engines that if the timing belt breaks the engine is shot? If it is then due to age I would replace the belt asap
No belt. Pretty much a regular small displacement ohv engine. Nothing too sophisticated except maybe F.I.
Call me if it doesn’t sell. Lee 229-894-6472
Nice looking Chevrolet. Loved the GM personal luxury cars of all generations. 160 horsepower was decent for the times. Other than a Corvette and some leftover Camaro inventory try finding a 2 dr Chevy car in the 2025 model year. Try finding a V6 even in a 4 door Malibu or even a new Accord. It is also difficult to find a 1999 American car in such decent cosmetic condition. I know a man who had owned the 4 door Lumina new in that time frame and loved it taking along friends on day trips throughout his state in total comfort. Price is always subjective and negotiable but the Monte is worth a look.
That’s not factory plastic on the floor
You’re right. The mat wouldn’t be underneath from the factory. The plastic is sold by dealer supply companies and detailing shops use it to preserve their work.
