1937 International Pickup: Awake At Last?

front left

Time has not been too unkind to this pickup listed here on craigslist in Terre Haute. The seller is asking $6,000. After sitting for 25 years it doesn’t look too bad from a distance and it even runs and drives!

There’s rust about every where you look in the photos. A closer look could be very disappointing, but perhaps worth a look for the price. It looks very complete. There are lots of possibilities for this old truck. What do you think?

seller posted 13 photos but none of motor, inside or underside so it would need a PI. it might be worth restoring or just driving until it died then using the parts to keep other truck running. nice find.

This is a very rare “D” series IH, of which very few exist today. This is, I feel, in remarkable condition, even the 3 diamond tail gate, again, almost non-existent. There was a time, when every farm or business had one of these, but they were worked hard, and scrapped. Since the mechanic’s are horribly out of date for today’s roads, ( and probably shot anyway) someone will probably rat this out. Still, an amazing find. Makes you wonder, how many are still out there, as they still seem to turn up in 2015.

What a nice straight truck, it’s not often you find one with grille still intact. This would look fantastic restored, and it’s not a Chevy or ford so on car night it would really stand out. This would be easy to work on and fun to restore.

I’d take this one home and put it right beside my ’38 D2. Nice shape, definitely worth restoring although I prefer the shorter wheelbase. This one has fixable rear fenders; the vast majority of old Binders either haven’t got salvageable fenders, or none left (like mine). I had to settle for a pair off a later ’40 K1 for mine. Like Howard says, there are very few of these left. I sure hope it doesn’t get hot-rodded.

Listing’s gone so someone must have thought it was a good deal…

I’m not much for “patina”, but I would just fix the mechanix on this one and drive it as is, although sparingly. I think it would be much more interesting that way.

I just looked and the listing is still there??! As said earlier, no under carriage shots and no engine shots? As much rust as is showing up top, I would be interested to see the underside! Plus, everyone wants to see the engine!!! No matter what it looks like. I think it should be an Ad Listing Rule that every ad, that has something mechanical in it, MUST have a picture of the power source!! We are called “Gear Heads” not “Body Heads”! At least, in my case, not of the metal variety……….
