1940 Cadillac Series 60 Survivor

1940 Cadillac

This grand old Cadillac that Steve J found here on craigslist looks really original, even down to the paint on the engine. It was last registered in 1972. The engine turns, but hasn’t been started yet. $13,500 might seem overpriced to many, but for an original survivor like this Cadillac, it seems reasonable if it’s really as described.

More pictures would certainly be nice, but these do give the impression of it being a pretty nice car. The engine appears complete and unmolested. I hope whoever buys it appreciates it the way it is, but it could end up a parts car for a more desirable version. Thanks again, Steve, for this really great find!

It is a looker to say the least. fairly priced. not sure if the paint can be buffed out, if not, a repaint. would pretty much leave it alone very few mods, if any. Part it out? bite your tongue!! too nice!

Get it running, make it a safe driver, maybe a repaint, and enjoy! To me, this is “desirable” enough, and shouldn’t be cannibalized, allowed to decay or hot-rodded.

I can’t imagine parting this car out, if were mine I’d make it safe get it painted and drive it on weekends, show and shine nights, and parades. Nice find.

Part it out, my butt!! It’s a beautiful car that just needs a little care to get it running and driving. I’m not sure I’d even touch the paint unless theres more wrong than the defects like the missing paint on the tip of the hood. This car would be one to be loved and driven to club meets and car shows!

The 60 Special is a desirable version. This car should be preserved as is. If the motor turns it likely will run with a little help.

Any heretic that would part out this car should be burned at the stake!!

Id say burn the bugger at the stake…also rare because of the dual sidemounts…many came without..I think the first year for HydraMatic as well….even if you got it running..buffed the crap out her and the stainless..put new correct tires and brakes…just drive the old girl…

Michael Jacobs, I believe that photo is of a 1938, the first year of this style 60S. Hood vents and front end chrome changed for 1939 and 40. ’38 is my favorite!!

I’m sure we all love these sort of ads where the owner did not take the extra step…if it really just needs the fuel pump installed, just do it and make the car much more saleable!

If it goes for under $15,000 someone gets a real bargain, but, this is a prime example of the drop off in value of pre WWII, or, even Pre 1960 cars, at this point. I think this would have sold for a lot more, in real dollars, ten years ago. It will probably be destined for “full classic” if not already. The ’41’s are, to me, the best looking front ends, the rest of the car is basically the same from I think ’38 to ’41, but this one, with dual sidemounts, is very attractive.

I would buy it, clean it up, repaint if the clean up was not enough, and take it to parades and meets and Home Depot on sunny Saturdays and the beach on Sunday.
