1949 Lincoln Cosmopolitan: Weary Barn

1949 Lincoln Cosmopolitan

The seller of this 1949 Lincoln Cosmopolitan listed on craigslist in Western Massachusetts says it likely won’t make it through the winter unscathed, as the barn it’s housed in is on the verge of collapse. With the onslaught of snow almost a certainty at this point, it’d be a shame to see this car ruined by fallen timbers and heavy ice. It looks reasonably complete with good sheetmetal and a decent-but-dusty interior. The car’s location in Hadley, Mass. is one that’s familiar to me, and there is a lot of decent tin stored in barns. My relatives in the area have spotted everything from GTO convertibles to Bugeye Sprites hiding in plain sight, so it’s of little surprise to see this Lincoln tucked away out there. Thanks to reader Paul B. for the find.

One of my favorite tunes. Hot Rod Lincoln! Hope it gets saved.

At this point, it may be better for this one to be pulled outside where it’s safer. I’d hate to see the roof cave in on this classic.

I don’t understand how the seller can stand there with tears rolling down their cheeks and wringing their hands and sob,”I don’t know if it’ll make thru the winter because the barn is about to collapse!” Drag it out of the barn and throw a tarp over it.

Finally a car that looks to be very very solid all over. Could be wrong of course, but the metal parts don’t have the appearance of being exposed to high humidity.

I like the hamburger bun styling. Not sure whether I have ever seen one of this vintage before, the headlights certainly are unique.

Looks like a complete vehicle, and a really good place to start with a restoration. And the price seems fair as well. Hard to go too wrong here…..
