1959 Porsche 356 A Cabriolet Project

Crashed Cabriolet

Here’s one of the cars that came in on that amazing truckload of 356s. It was parked long ago in a barn after an obvious collision. There are oil change stickers in the door jam dating back to 1967 and the seller assumes that was around the time when the unfortunate event happened. Some car wouldn’t warrant a restoration after suffering damage like this, but Porsche 356s are different. Someone will pay top dollar for the privilege of dragging this one home and will then proceed to pour buckets full of money over it. This project actually looks more doable than many we have come across lately. Bidding is very active here on eBay so it should be interesting to see what this ultimately goes for. Hopefully, Adam will keep us updated on its fate.

No. Just no. I’m sorry, but $45K — as of now — for a not-terribly-uncommon car that will need something very close (at least) to a six-figure restoration just doesn’t work for me.

I understand Porsche fanatics to a degree, and commend the seller for honesty, but this is carrying things too far. They are neat-looking cars and very nice to drive — as long as their age is factored in — but for this kind of money I’d want either no rust or no body damage or a fully-assembled (so the buyer can feel certain it’s really all there and won’t need costly small pieces to be usable) 356.

There was a time when such a car would run 45 Large if restored. Never mind that, though, it’s something only us geezers will remember.

Many years ago, I used to own this car and many more like it. The price reflects today’s market. The seller, Adam, is very well known in the Porsche 356 world and is a good guy.

You can buy with confidence from Adam. I’ve dealt with him for years and consider him a friend. He’s knowledgeable, fair, and tries hard to be a comic.

looking at it again it seems that the passenger front quarter and perhaps the front clip are blue under the silver. good chance this has seen at least one accident repair already?

It may have been the blue primer, they did that on the wheels to bring out the silver.

Please forgive my ignorance on these cars as I know nothing about them. Just an observation and a question. The passenger side top dash appears wavy. Am I correct in presuming that is some kind of factory leather covering and not the metal buckled?

As far as the front end goes…to anyone who has stripped-down one of these & understands how they were slapped together- a piece of cake.
