1961 Chevrolet Corvette Plus Parts Car

The first generation of “America’s Sport Car” was in the wind-down mode in 1961 and 1962. A new era of the Chevrolet Corvette was coming in 1963 and would carry the “Sting Ray” sub-name. The seller has a pair of these later C1s, a mostly stock 1961 project, and a wrecked 1962 restomod donor. Perhaps you can borrow from one to revive the other. Located in Dickinson, Texas, this forlorn duo is available as a package deal here on eBay. An opening bid of $50,000 might get both if someone just clicks the button.

Both the 1961 and 1962 Corvettes would set new sales records, with nearly 11,000 copies of the former and 14,500 of the latter. The ’61s would be the last for the 283 cubic inch V8 in a ‘Vette, while the new 327 debuted in ’62 and would carry the torch for several model years. How the seller came about this pair isn’t known, or if he/she ever had plans to turn one into two. Though the ’61 looks good without inspection, we’re told it needs a total restoration. And the ’62 was a sharp car until it went airborne after an accident.

1961 Corvette

It’s a red-on-white-on-red sports car that’s a roller, although a non-working engine is under the hood. Some body work will be in order, followed by a new quality paint job. It, too, may have been in a parking lot skirmish, though likely minor. The interior looks good, though the frames to bolt in the seats are MIA. While the carpeting is good, the door panels are not. The hood had a hole for a supercharger, but the hood from the ’62 can replace it. A non-correct 327 sits below it and has Fuelie heads, but it’s not complete; a 4-speed manual tranny is along for the tour. An assortment of other parts is missing, like the gas tank.

1962 Corvette

This was a sharp Corvette until it was involved in a nasty accident that has pretty much ruined it. A prior restoration was done with a more modern drivetrain, i.e., a 420 hp 383 V8 and a Tremec 5-speed tranny with rack and pinion steering and more. Since the other ‘Vette isn’t numbers-matching, you could transfer the engine, tranny, and more over to the ’61. The seller wants these cars to go together and won’t do any of the shipping stuff beyond opening the garage door or gate. Does this pair do anything for you?
