Rarely do you come across an entire car for only one dollar,. Often sellers will list cars for ridiculously cheap and then at the end of their post say “make an offer”. This is the first time I’ve seen a car for sale for this low of a price. This 1965 MG MGB also comes with 17 extra wheels which feels like more than steal. While the car isn’t in running condition, the seller states that the car was a SCCA race car since ’72 and was running back in 2010. The car does not come with its engine or transmission and will certainly be a long-term project should the next owner choose to try and restore it. This MGB is listed on craigslist. Thanks to Henry R for the tip!
The car is in pretty rough condition with a decent amount of apparent rust and damage. The seller bought it from an estate sale in hopes that some of the car could be used as a donor for another project. The car has a roll cage intact and some of the body seems to be salvageable. The seller noted that the doors were in decent enough condition to be restored.
The car is accompanied by seven 15 X 7 Compomotive wheels, two 14 x 7 Compomotive wheels, four 15 X 7 Maglite wheels, two 14 X 7 seemingly magnesium wheels, and 2 stock Rotostyle wheels. All of the wheels share a 4 x 4.5 bolt pattern. The generous seller also notes that they are willing to throw in a three or four-speed MGB transmission. The items listed may not be in great condition, but again the seller is only asking for a dollar in exchange for a significant amount of parts and potential. This MGB does not come with a title, however it will be sold with its race log books which include a matching VIN number to the cars VIN plate. While this car may not be an ideal candidate for an affordable full restoration as it needs significant work before it’s even close to running condition, it may be a great opportunity for someone who wants to go Lemons Racing?
Posting deleted by author. Was it sold or was it a scam? Who knows? If it seems too good to be true….
I hate when sellers won’t name a price, they are quick to turn down offers they don’t like, so they have a ballpark in mind. They should pick number as a starting point and negotiate from there.
This could be a legitimate ad, not the $1, but they might have accepted an offer. Used race cars, especially those geared for entry lever classes typically don’t sell for a lot of money, especially if the car has been sitting. Most good deals circulate around the track via word of mouth sometimes Facebook. I’m more familiar with drag car, it’s not hard to find competitive 10 second turn key bracket cars in the neighborhood of $10,000, grudge night bombers for less. That’s a fraction of the price to build or even buy a rusted and stripped street car of the same make and model.
It’s conceivable the seller just wanted it gone and took what he condos reasonable offer.

The ad actually said they only wanted a dollar because they just wanted it to go to someone who might use it rather than it going to the scrapyard.
Thank you Jesse.

One dollar? I don’t have that kind of money!!
Maybe you could finance it?
Replace the fenders and put a drive train in it and you have a Vintage race car. Building one as we speak and using up all the stuff sitting in cabinets or just laying around doing nothing.
Exactly what I was thinking, a pretty easy lift….
I have seen this cat at the June Sprints but it’s been many years. . The rear fenders, you will see fasteners at the top, they come right off giving a lot of access and for quick repairs. With all the changes in the SCCA, I doubt it is competitive anymore. Maybe vintage racing.
There is no chance this can be put back on the road
😎 right on bobhess 🏁
I don’t think there was ever a 3 speed transmission for an MGB.
Will you take 75 cents? It’s a cash offer…
