Chevrolet built more than 800,000 Impalas in 1965 on their way to more than one million full-size cars. That’s a record that’s been unmatched in the last 60 years. Sales for 1967 racked up 575,600 Impalas, a solid accounting if you set aside the success of 1965. The seller has a ’67 Impala convertible project, one of about 30,000 to leave the factory that year. It will require loads of work, and the engine and transmission (non-running) are not original to the car. Located in a driveway in Newington, Connecticut, this rough drop-top is available here on eBay and the first $5,700 takes it to the house as a tip from Mitchell G.
In 1967, a host of buyers were still in the mood to “See the USA in Your Chevrolet” (remember the Dinah Shore commercials of the 1950s?). With the top down on this Impala convertible, this car’s original owner checked a lot of boxes on the options list. That includes a power assist for the drop top, plus power windows, brakes, and steering. We don’t know what engine or tranny combo was in this vehicle when new, but a 283 cubic inch V8 with a 2-speed Powerglide automatic would be a decent guess.
While it’s hard to tell now, Nantucket Blue was the original paint on this car, and what’s left of the upholstery is white between the doors. We don’t know what color the top was, either, as the canvas is all but gone, but the seller says the frame seems to be in good shape. As the car doesn’t run and has lots of cosmetic issues, this may be a challenging car, either as a project or a donor.
There is no title as we’re told Connecticut didn’t do those back in the day. And when you come to pick up your prize, tractor-trailers aren’t allowed (maybe an HOA restriction in the neighborhood). And you’d better take it home as soon as possible as storage runs $100/month.
